DMP08 DMP08:
I find myself wondering, why is North America SO concerned about nudity???

Interesting point. In Sweden kids can watch the equivalent of porn on TV all day long. But they can't see anything violent until they're of age.

Just an observation.

It's not just a Sweedish thing. It's a European thing. I remember the last time I was in Germany. I could go to the local Kwik-E-Mart and see a whole rack full of porno mags all open and at knee height. Yet, my cousin couldn't get Goldeneye anywhere in Germany because it was deemed too violent.

yah and i think europe has it right. more so than North America.

Violence and such is worse than some boobies.

I think the site is representative of web content generally. A little bit of everything, some of which is family friendly and some of which is not. Generally speaking a site so focussed on photo galleries and forums is unlikely to be truly family friendly, it's the nature of relatively free expression.

I wouldn't think that this is a "family" site. It's far more oriented to adults, but that's not saying that this should be a porn site either. This is a good all around site for those older than 16 I'd say. Although many younger people come here I'm sure, but it's not really for them.

Canada is even more "liberated" than the US, at least television and radio wise... One example is we show television shows such as the Sopranos on regular channels unedited. 8)

SwampoO @ Fri Nov 11, 2005 4:59 pm

has anyone considered the sites average age of membership? Thats your target consumer... as far as I can tell the average age is not 18 and under. Change what you got to be more to be more "family friendly" then perhaps you'll start getting 12 and unders starting threads for their new internet boyfriend Hester. J/K! ...

At any rate the forum discussions are already pretty mature, not just in adult content, but there's some heavy stuff in there that I don't think any kids are going to find at all interesting.

You've got a good thing here, don't fix it if it ain't broken

I think QBC and SwampoO have the right idea...seems to work fine to me.

You can see the updated version if you buy the cable for it, but yeah that's true, but it's still new to me. (Same with shows like the Shield, Dead Like Me, and Six Feet Under)

A family site?! Maybe I shouldn't have been offering free drinks to everyone *hides gin*

Erinites Erinites:
But bear in mind...we have many underaged members whom post and surf this site...

and the underaged will be corrupted by the undergrad members, and the circle of life will continue as it has since the days that the first returning college freshman bought a six-pack for the kids entering high school =)

$1:
What do you want your children to access?

You're right we should try our best to keep all of our references to double entendres when possible so that the kids who do get it, can be assured to have already been corrupted =)

Hester Hester:
Much of this is blocked by parental filters and firewalls - another sign that this is not a family site.

The fact that it's blocked by parental filters proves nothing... My high school's filters blocked so many research sites it wasn't even funny and a damned annoyance for that day when you were actually doing work in the school library (it had the comfiest chairs in the place, what'd they expect?).

Canadaka @ Fri Nov 11, 2005 6:02 pm

It is true that some filters block this site just because of the word "ass"

Hester @ Fri Nov 11, 2005 6:08 pm

Trev, I also like the site the way it is. Despite what I submitted (more for interest and shock value than titillation) I wouldn't like to see porn or even more nudity in the galleries. What you have is great, and should be more than sufficient for even the most red-blooded male. Or female.
I go through the galleries at work - very carefully, with a few coworkers looking on. I wouldn't be allowed to do that, probably would even be denied access to the entire site if it was anymore 'adult-oriented.'
