commenting on news links is still pretty low. I was wondering if i made it so when you click the number of comments link to comment, rather than it loading a new page it were to popout under the post with the latest comments and the comment post.

This would make commenting faster, you wouldn't need to load a new page.

Would people use this?

I made another improvment to the news links.

if you hover the mouse over the link a yellow popup box will appear with the Data, Poster and URL in it.

I find this handy, I like to see the url so i can see the source.

Me too, I like that!

i worked on getting the popdown commenting working, took me FOREVER to get the popdown to work since it had to work individualy for each News item. I also made a hide all button at the top.

There is nothing but white space in the pop-down atm. I'm having troubles figuring out how to load the commenting content into an iframe so that it only loads when requested. So when someone just goes to canadaka.net front-page its not loading all the comments for all those links.... thats a lot of database queries.

I will get it eventualy.. i hope

I like the ideas.

Good luck.

By the way, Im probably going to advertise canadaka.net in the Canadian Yahoo chat rooms. Hope you don't mind. They have enough porn bots in their advertising porn sites, I figure I might aswell make like a canadaka.net bot and get some free advertising. More people that join the site means more dialect in the already booming forums.

thanks man, for sure you can do that. members spreading the word to other people, forums sites has been a huge contributor to the growth of Canadaka.net and the forums.

ok i finaly got the quick dropdown news link commenting working.

So now its really fast and easy to view and add links to news links, to comment and disucess the news article.

To the right of each news link is a yellow down arrow with a number beside it. The number is the total comments so far. Click this number and below a windows will pop-out. this contaings the current comments and the form to add a new comment.

Would adding the ability to copy and pst say the first couple sentances, or a short desciption of the news article be usefull?

This short info then would be shown in the yellow popup when you put your mouse over the headline.

So you can get a quick gist of what the article or news is about.

Regina @ Sun Oct 02, 2005 9:17 pm

I don't think you need to do that. The window that pops up now is good enough for me. If it seems interesting I usually check to see who did it.......then decide whether to bother clicking on to it.

Editing/deleting would be useful to correct typos and broken URL's as long as it is not abused or creates unnecessary work for the mods.

I have changed the news links a bit.

Now when you click a news link it goes to the linked article like before, but now there is a CKA frame at the top with the link details and so you can easily get back to Canadaka.net.

Also on the comments view of a news link, the article is now shown in an iframe, here is an example:
http://www.canadaka.net/modules.php?nam ... ts&id=3138

oh forgot to mention, I also improved the RSS newslinks feed. Before it linked to the comments page, then you would have to click the linke to actualy view the article.

Now the RSS feed goes right to the article.

I finaly got around to adding pages and sorting to the new link category pages.

When you click the category of the news link, it shows all the links in that cateogyr. Before there were no apges, so the list was HUGE and usualy timed out.

Now there is pages and methods of sorting the list.

example:
http://www.canadaka.net/modules.php?nam ... ry&catid=1
