BRAH BRAH:
It seems the list is endless of what can be seen as copy right material causing headaches, such as no longer being able to post AP stories.

Sorry to link to Free Republic but they have an ongoing post of websites and etc. that will sue if they find their material posted somewhere.

I some times post a "link only" post and it's because the link goes to one of these places and I really don't care to cause a headache for Trevor.

I created another tool that scans all the posts in the forums for linked images and displays them 500 at a time. Clicking the image will goto the post. I've been weeding out some potential offenders today. canadaka.net/forums/postphotos_admin.php

Google lifted the ban on Canadaka.net ad-serving. So there are ads once again working. But we must remain vigilant to not most adult images. I'm still going through some posts from 10 years ago.

But I had to remove ads from forum topic/post pages, this will greatly reduce potential revenue, but Its much harder to guarantee the content on forum posts meets their guidelines.

Same perk as in the past, if you donate money to the site, you will get "Gold" status on your account and ads will be disabled.

With ads back and if I reduce my server costs by going to only 1 server, I should be able to cover costs once again. I really should have done all of this a year ago!

Wow...$3,000 a year. That's a hefty sum to be coming out of your pocket...

It's really my fault, Google has been blocked all year, I should have resolved this earlier. I was just too busy and lazy.

I have made around $1000 from ads on other sites (Politwitter), some hosting fees and a generous monthly donation by a CKA member. So the personal hit is a bit less ($2,000), but still sucks.

For 2016 I should be able to lower my server costs from $250 a month down to around $150.

Do they actually make that much money on ads at a place like CKA to make it worth their time? I can only speak for myself but I ignore every single ad I see. If I click one it's by accident or because they've rigged it to open even if the 'x' is clicked. I can't do much about video ads at places like YouTube but when they open up I turn the sound off so I don't have to hear about whatever garbage it is they're selling.

If ads are necessary here then so be it, as long as they're not the kind that open up a new window with all that "do you really want to leave this page?" crap that makes an ass of itself when someone wants to close it. I hate that shit entirely. Same with the ones that blare at full volume and you have to scroll all over the place to find it to shut it off. The guys who invent these kind of things should be crucified for crimes against humanity, politeness, and good taste.

CKA has always had ads, except the past year. CKA has never had the annoying pop-up or pop-under type ads.

Its not regular forum posters that generate most the revenue, its random search engine traffic.

Thanks for the time and effort you've put into fixing this issue Trev. [B-o]

As for the ad's. I kind of like them. I just found a hotel room in Kamloops for about half of what the other travel sites were quoting.

I'm good with this change in policy.

Same, haven't looked at the babes thread in a year.

If it's causing problems, just throw it all out.

We can get T&A elsewhere.

I like them too! They told me my girlfriend was in Asia! I was wondering where she went. :D

Gonna mis the babes, but like everyone else totaly support doing what you gotta do to keep the site going without going broke.

In the vein perhaps we should try to establish some sort of tradition where all of us, that can afford it, donate to the site for Christmas or something? I certainly don't mind donating some money, but I rarely think about it until a thread like this comes along.

On second thought Christmas might not be the best time what with all the other expenses at that time of year. When's Trevor's birthday? :)

BartSimpson @ Mon Nov 02, 2015 10:40 am

Unsound, perhaps you can just sign up for a modest monthly donation? If more people did this I'm sure we'd be able to cover the costs.
