Tolerance?

I've only been on this site for a week now, and I am starting to notice a trend. This trend is being happily pursued by both the right-wing thinkers and the left-wing. It actually seems to be the only area that both sides tend to agree with. This trend is the absolute quickness that a thread degenerates into a slam-fest.
Rational debate falls by the wayside, name calling, derogatory emoticons, and the ever popular "I'll quote you now and totally dissect and twist everything you said". People on both sides of the political spectrum need to develop a thicker skin and not take personal any opinion that is counter to theirs.
I came to this site by accident and thought, heres a place where I can engage in well thought out debates on a wide variety of topics. It seems I was wrong.
The tensions on this site are thick enough to cut with a knife, and it seems to all boil down to the present climate between Canada and the US. People who support the US are automatically labelled anti-Canadian, while people who don't support the US are labelled liberal commies.
I expect to get it from both sides on this just by viewing past threads. Canadians like to boast about how compassionate and tolerant they are, but in reality on this site that is not the norm.
If you feel bothered by anything that is written in this post, take a good look in the mirror. Just as there is ugly Americans(and I have met my share over the years) there is also the ugly Canadian(we just choose to pretend he doesn't exist).

That’s truest thing I’ve read on the entire forum. The ease with which people tear down one another’s worth as humans is stunning .It would be interesting to see debate without defamation. With all this vitriol and venom how can anyone point at the advisory of their cause and call them evil?

I can agree in some ways. I like to think I'm pretty independent as far as some things go, yet the second that I don't put down Bush on something I'm suddenly a propaganda filled republican. I mean instances would have to be the whole war for oil debate.

Human, with every post of yours you reveal a level of hatred that is evey bit as fanatical as the Palestinian Human bombs in the middle east. If you want people to at least entertain your ideas you need to tone it down. As it stands now you seem to make a klansmen look moderate.
I am what people would call right wing but you are an embarrassment! The left wing guys surprised me this time with no name calling, but I'm sure that will return in future posts the first time I disagree with their views!

I think it would be nice to have a real debate. In the begginning I was quite one sided on everything. Lately, I have been trying to look at both sides of the 'debate'. HUMAN, if you tone it down a little, people will listen. What always happens is that when human states one of his ideas, it leads into name calling because he is on a very radical end of the spectrum. Sorry to point you out human but your post did catch my attention.
And as for my opinion. If you support Canada, GREAT! Always be proud of your home. If you support the USA, GREAT! They are our neighbours and largest trading partner. If you dislike Canada or the USA, hey, thats your opinion.
