I think everybody talks with a regional accent. Annapolis Valley reidents in NS, hear me? The first time I heard a buddy of mine from NS talk "english", I thought I was in Georgia, for Christ's sake. I spent some time in New York state, & New York City is a hell of a lot different than upstate NY. Matter-of-fact, it takes some getting used to when ya come back home, 'jus to understand. Hey, anybody remember " J.D. ROBERTS" from the original "much music" out of T.O.?, circa 1982-'83? He's now the senior White House correspondent for CBS. Talks a little diffent now than he did then...lol
Hey SS if you think they talk funny in the valley you should hear them in Liverpool NS..you would swear you were in downtown Boston...hehehe...kar for car phark for park..hehehe I make fun of them and Im from NS...pasit03 fat

The best vacation I ever had, Fat, was in '89. Me & an asshole buddy got "lost" in NY & MA! Hee, Hee, Vermont too!. The accents! Two weeks of driving & drinking, NOT drinking & driving! We both had dumb-ass girlfriends in Ottawa, who weren't treating us right, if ya know what I mean. So we fucked-off for a camping trip, dat was da plan! Well hell, we were scraping change off the floor of the truck for gas-money two weeks, and lots of memories, later! The girlfriends are long-gone, but the memories remain. Even the people in Boston don't talk the way we think they do, most of 'em. Hell, If I remember correctly, THEY didn't think WE talked Canadian at all! LMAO....,And no, never saw too many guns, never got shot at, never got mugged, but I DID see a Quebec plate in NY City, actually it was Newark, New Jersey...secret: if I knew now what I didn't know then, I woulda give him a rough time & blamed it on the Americans! LOL, memories, s'all I got!

I've lived in Canada for all of my 45 years. I have travelled to every province except PEI and Manitoba. I have NEVER heard anyone say "ABOOT" instead of "ABOWT" ... NEVER! The only time hear it is when an American is trying to imitate a Canadian accent. This must be an urban legend ...

There are so many different accents in Canada that somebody probably says "aboot" but I have no idea who.

Yes, and for what is undoubtedly the first one you ever had, it was a reasonable start.

I don't kn ow if this qualifies as an accent,It does't really but after reading the posts on accents .I have a question that has been bugging me sicne I moved to B.C.I am an Albertan and proud of it.Anyways I have had a running argument with the guys at work.It is about dinner time back home dinner is noon supper is around 5 or six .here in lotus land dinner is at six lunch is noon so what the hell happened to supper? I know this probably is't the right place to place this but I am a newbie.

I know what you are saying, blubs. I was born in the Prairies (though I left as a kid) and the midday meal is known as dinner. It seems to just be a prairie thing, though perhaps some Eastener may correct me. But in BC, "lunch is lunch" - while "dinner" and "supper" are simply interchangable terms for the same evening meal.
It might be that so many of us in BC spent our youth "lunched", that we never learned another term for it......

But do you hear yourself speak with a Canadian Accent?
I work with Kiwi's (the people not the bird) and they've all commented that "Yes in fact Canadians do say aboot"
It's not so much a sylable (sp?)pronunciation as an inflection.
