These coins are terrific and do kick ass... It's about time something on a big scale was done to remind everyone, why or country is so free...all our falllen heros and veterans....
Lest we Forget
Hey...I haven't been home in awhile so I wasn't aware a new coin was being released. What currency is it?...$5?
It's a quarter, Chick. I haven't had one in person yet, just saw them on tv. I won't be giving one away for a poppy though...poppies are worth a twoney
Ah...I miss Canadian money. It's pretty. (I'm a girl...what can I say) American money is so blah...all one color. It IS worth more though...*sigh*
When we were in Seattle we were trying to spend all of our American money before coming back. We went to see this photographic exhibit...the admission was a donation. I gave the woman thirty bucks...a ten and a twenty I'd folded up and put in my jacket pocket. I thought she kind of looked at me funny.
We got to the airport in Vancouver and I thought I'd use up a couple of US ones I had to pay for my beer. I reached into my pocket and pulled out the ten and twenty that I thought I'd given the woman at the museum.
No wonder the woman at the gallery looked at me funny...I'd handed her two dollars to get two people into a major exhibit.
Is there any other country besides the US that has such bland currency?
I don't know about other countries currency...but one thing about the US people and their relationship to their money...they don't want to change it at all. They've tried introducing coins here and changing the color of the bills...all resulting in failure and a huge uproar from the public in protest. Even the most recent change to the $20 bill where they added a tiny tiny bit of pink/light green hue to the bill...(Mostly done to prevent counterfeiting I think)...resulted in a big stink. The bills are being used but the attitude towards the change in the money was a "I'll use it because you are forcing me to."...
Weird.
For those who have not yet seen it...here it is:
Canadian Poppy Coin
Two bits, four bits, six bits a dollar.
No wonder our mint is so well known...we kick ass.
I've gotten a ton of these new coins, I think they are just awesome. I guess I've received so many b/c I spend too much time and Tim Horton's but I've already seen them being circulated from other stores so they are getting around pretty quick. I love that about Canada, we're not afraid of change, innovation or colour.
I still haven't gotten one, and they were minted here in Winnipeg. Of course I never actually buy anything but beer and gas....
Those coins are sweet. But does Tim Horton's have the uncirculated ones available, or just the ones they give as change? Otherwise I'm gonna wait until the banks have them in so I can get some uncirculated ones.
well they are being distributed straight from tim horton's, so many of the ones they give out are uncirculated, sans plastic case of course but more likely then not the ones you get as change from tim hortons are brand new.
I got 3 new coins as change from good old timmies.
there pretty kewl, but.. I think there gunna have problems, mine already had some rad coming off and there wasn't a scratch on them
Probably be the same problems as the Twoonie when it came out. Work out the bugs that they didn't think of, such as kids trying to press out the middle of the coin with their desks and chairs...
