Ah yes, The Pipe. I smoked a pipe for about a month when I was younger, lol
I enjoyed it, it took a bunch of time to get all set up and when ya lite it up you can fill a room with the pleasant smell of Pipe Tobacco Smoke. Hmmm think I'll go look for that ole boy and give er another go.

Oh here are some pics of smoke packs' and a pack of smokes I bought of the Iroquois in Bala.

Yeah... it takes a while pipes, but 'tis worth it.

What kind have you? i have your classic cherry wood straight stem, oohh, and a corn cob pipe, like them sailors got.

I think umm... Players right? that's another big smoke upp there, eh? they are extremely smooth kinda weak though...they're the blue pack, right?

I can't remember how many torontonians asked me, "you gotta light?"

Ahh... good news, i found a pipe and pen store in downtown indianapolis.

I must've missed this thread the first time around...

I smoked cigars (smoked them, didn't taste them like most people do) for a few years until I got ahold of one of my grandfather's old pipes. It's just a straight stemmed briar, and I completely overhauled it (removed all the old cake, and soaked the bowl in a salt/scotch mixture for about a day to get rid of the sour taste). Took me about a week to teach myself to smoke it, and I was hooked for quite a while (quit last winter when it started getting too cold).

I enjoyed it... sitting outside with a book, the great smell, taking proper care of the pipe... plus I was never "addicted" to smoking, so that was a plus.

I only tried a few types of tobacco, but the one I liked the most was plain old captain black original... I tried a traditional english blend once, and the guy warned me it was a bold choice... I only smoked it once. Reminded me of the smell of the boiler room in the basement of my elementary school (where the janitor smoked his pipe) or an ashtray... it's pretty intense stuff, and not very nice smelling.

I have a collection of pipes, most I haven't smoked in some time.

A large briar for regular purposes, bent, not straight.
A long indian clay pipe, too nice to use, really.
A few others picked up along the way.
And one, I think from the Netherlands, with a typical smallish bowl, but a stem that was more than a foot long, very slender, and gently curving.

Never saw another like it.

Always wanted a German Meerschaum.

I have never smoked anything....for one exception. I smoke cigars but only while camping. Not addicted at all, as someone said, thats a good thing. Here is a pic. From my last camping trip that lasted 4 days (3 nights), the pack on the left is unopened, thought I'd have more than I did (so full it contains 8 cigars) and I only had 6 cigars out of the other pack. Actually, 5, I gave one away to my buddy. Note the beautiful warnings on all Canadian Tobbacco products. A pack of Captain Black's will run you about $7.00 or so after taxes and such. I have these Captain Blacks (Sweet Cherry) or I have had Colts Rum/Wine dipped in the past as well.

Also check out Prime Time mini Cigars. They can be bought individually and come in little plastic tubes. They come in all sorts of flavours.

Try Old Port, if you're into those things... but if I ever smoke again, it'll be a pipe, and a pouch of Captain Black White.

Check first for a filter. A lot of pipes have them.

Take the stem off carefully, which on a pipe that hasn't been used in a while can be difficult to do without breaking it.

If it requires a filter, you need replacements, first.

Sometimes you find odd things. One old pipe had a short aluminum shaft connected to a bead about the size of a pea, with two holes in it. I think the deal was to keep tar from travelling up the stem.

So, don't break anything...

FuBaR @ Sun Jan 22, 2006 9:40 pm

So if it needs a filter and there isnt one in it, will I know I'm supposed to have one? How will I go about cleaning the bowl and up the stem, just soak it in water?
