Well according to the poll, the majority want to keep the CBC as it is now. HAHAHA!

Don't put much store by that! Polls around here are easilly manipulated (lefties challenged polls they don't like and posted the method). After the next election expect a blood bath around the CBC.

That will likely be a bunch of Tories committing hara-kiri over the fact that didn't win the majority they've been lusting after for so long.

its time for CBC to get profitable or go under. they are not the only Canadian broadcaster.

Currently the LIBRANO's are falling on their swords, over their preformance in the bi-elections. The Librano's are resigning like rats leaving a sinking ship.

At the present rate Harper will get a majority without a general election.

"At the present rate Harper will get a majority without a general election."

And even if he doesn't, having a minority isn't stopping him from tearing down the Trudeau social engineering state. And the Liberals won't dare to raise taxes to restore it, even if they do win the next election.

If Harper can finally kill off the gun registry and get the federal government's nose out of provincial jurisdiction before his government is brought down, he'll have done Canada a great service.

The Trudeau statue is finally being toppled. Make sure you're not standing under it as it falls. ;-)

Oh. and just to stay on topic, I hope he gets around to dismantling that left-wing propaganda organ (the CBC) as well.

Arrow @ Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:26 pm

Well, I guess when you perceive everything from a right-wing slant, everything you disagree with is left-wing. doesn't make your perspective balanced though

YOUR_DEAD @ Mon Apr 14, 2008 6:40 pm

Just last night I watched a documentary on the CBC on Afghanistan, you just don't see documentaries or any thing else that requires a brain on the other Canadian networks. I guess all you CBC haters just like to watch American Idol or the other crap the other Canadian channels provide.

Shut down? No...that's pointless...but privatized? Why not? Why should any Canadian government fund any network? CTV so far has done well, and they actually release some good programming (aka Corner Gas). I think the CBC can survive, hell maybe even expand. I like CBC News World, and that controlling Hockey Night in Canada can make them extremely profitable.

Canada should NOT fund any of the CBC's lovey dovey, multiculturalism is great bullshit (a la Little Mosque on the Prairie) If nobody watches, they shouldn't continue it.

Wanna cite all the other examples of CTV Canadian greatness? If CBC'd have picked up Corner Gas, what would you be using to justify?

So long as the Leafs make it into post-season/

But people watch. And more importantly, straight eyeballs aren't everything. CTV and Global produce precious little that's Canadian; the Corpse is mostly Canadian. If you prefer CTV and Global to CBC, how can you in all good conscience stay on a board called Canadacka?

Well I can use Global as well? Some of this shit is before my time but why not go to Wikipedia and gather a few shows.

Corner Gas
SCTV
E.N.G.
Traders
Trailer Park Boys (I hate the fucking show but eh)
Stargate SG1 (It was filmed in Canada and had a good chunk of it being Canadian cast)

So what's the problem? Even if Canadian networks don't produce complete Canadian content, why should we just pay for some extra network that most people don't even watch.

Not always, I'm sure there are still many thousands of Canadians watching the the Playoffs. Oh and Leafs suck. Go Habs!

What does my preference of television has to do with my pride in this country? I love Canada, its a great nation. HOWEVER, its not a perfect nation, and the CBC can use improvement. Plus this is a great Forum, ever since the old place died out

E.N.G.

Early '90's

Not produced for CTV or Global

Stargate SG1 (It was filmed in Canada and had a good chunk of it being Canadian cast)

Same problem as TPB

CBC produces CanCon for Canadians. CTV and Global buy American programming and give back dick-all. CTV Canadian Television [there's a laugh]) is a joke and CanWest's in hock to Goldman Sacks.

Agreed and may the Habs redeem us.

canadaka. Canada Kicks Ass. That's why I see a disconnect with you loving-up CanWest and CTV while kicking the CBC. Trouble is, everyone in this feckin' country wants something for nothing and doesn't want to see our own stories on our own broadcast airwaves. Why did we feckin' bother with the War of 1812? Should've just let it be a mere matter of marching.

Or is that quote lost on you?

So what? You didn't ask for any current Canadian televison shows that were made by private Canadian television. I gave you a list. Name popular CBC programs that aren't current events/sports based...Mercer Report? Maybe reruns of This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Royal Canadian Air Farce? Documentaries are nice, but if we so wanted a private CBC can be a massive news/documentary show.

And the hell? Just because I think the CBC makes shitty programs doesn't mean I want Canada to be exactly like the US. If a private CBC wants to make Canadian only programming...then so be it. If they want to make Canadian documentaries with maybe a grant from universities and some government departments...then so be it. But I rather not have what basically is state sponsored television.

ridenrain @ Mon Apr 14, 2008 8:21 pm

I wish the CBC woould stick with telling Canadian stories to Canadians but they screw around with outbidding the others to the Bejing olympics or othr such high profile sporting events.
That's not it's place. It never should be competing against private industry because it has the unfair advantage of taxpayers funding.
