I just spent 10 days in Holland and Belgium. I have never had beer as good as I had in Belgium. It was fantastic. Oddly, I bought a few bottles of Belgian beer when I returned and they were no where near as good.

The only beer that ever left me with an impressive taste is German beer.

I don't see how alcohol content is the only measure of good beer.

Its not, no more than alcohol content is indicative of a good wine.

I realize that, some seem to think so, and I am wondering why.

A good point. Beers low in alcohol content do tend to be on the watery side, but too much alcohol and it isn't really beer anymore.

There's this Canadian brew called Black Label Maxx (I think) which has 10% alcohol content. The stuff is bloody awful. PDT_Armataz_01_27

Phillips Barley Wine is at 13% and what a beer! [B-o]

#1. Kokanee beer, without a doubt. http://www.kokaneebeer.com/

#2 Budwiser, the king of beers.

The rest, you can piss in a bottle to get roughly the same taste.

Oddly enough, that's exactly how I would've described Bud. Good advertising, piss-poor beer. Kokanee's OK and on principle I search out a local micro over a beer that's brewed in the hectolitre range.

Personally, I find one Old Credit Honey Lager followed by an Old Credit Pale Pilsner to be a nice balance. 'Course, some of us are just lucky that way. :)

When I was younger I really liked Kokanee, now not so much. Rickards Red and MooseHead are my current favourite Canadian Beers.

Have you tried Hoegaarden? Thats the best beer ever, and its from Belgium.

As for a Canadian beer, I drink Canadian.

So is it safe to say that Hoegaarden's like moose piss? 'Cuz yer taste in Canadian beer sucks

Beer doesn't need a name or a glass, just drink the damn stuff.

I don't drink much Canadian beer dude, none tastes very good, not compared to the best kinds anyway.

Keith's ain't half bad, bud I'd prefer a Stella Artois or a Rickards or a Guinness...

Robair @ Mon Apr 14, 2008 10:10 pm

All kinds of good beers. I like beer.

Try to support a local brew wherever I go. Here in the Okanagan I drink Okanagan Springs Lager. When in Saskatchewan, it's Great Western... You get the idea.

Fine. Your opinion. But if you're going to drink what you qualify as good beer and then admit to drinking Molson's at home, it sort of makes your judgement in beer suspect.

I have had warm beer, skunky beer, old beer, light beer, stout, and all kinds of draft but i never had a bad beer

Thought it was owned by some Dutch company. Hmm maybe Moosehead or Alexander Keiths. Oh well, we brew it we drink it. Thats all that matters.

Ah, Moosehead is the oldest independent brewerie in Canada, and still based in St John's, I think.

Keith's is a Labatt product....

Either way, our beer is still at the top of the list, in my opinion. The only other place who knows beer from piss is the UK, but they're style is quite a bit different... pub ales and stouts, etc. I like them just as much as Canadian beer, but the widget adds a significant novelty factor...

I'm not sure if anyone fixed this, but Mooshead is brewed in Saint John N.B. Not St John's, which is in NFLD. It is in fact the oldest independent. It brews Alpine, Moose and Clancy's (Which was said to be done by Molson or some such nonsense earlier.)

My fav? Its a toss between Moose Dry and Sleeman's Clear. I miss Steam Whistle though.

Depends on your palette though. Steam Whistle's too sharp for mine personally while I like Old Credit because:

1) it's close

and

2) Their Honey Lager in combination with their Pilsner packs a nice one-two punch to the palette IMHO. Two Honey Lagers would be just too cloying whereas the Honey Lager/Pilsner combination is just so. Mind you, Summer's coming and I'm sure I might even lean a little toward their Amber Ale. Either way, t'is the season to be jolly. :)
