Regina Regina:
So what is the nose number?

I looked through some of my pictures and found some others with 900's. We have lots of them fly in and out of here so maybe I just happened to have seen the same one a few times and it stuck in my mind. Also many of the ones I've seen here are the two seaters so maybe it has something to do with training?

What kind of birds were they???? Cormorant???

No, they were F-18's.

They're the most common military aircraft we see here and they're usually in pairs or fours. On 911 and the next few days following it was all we saw in the air. The only difference was that they were "loaded" fully under the wings and they flew VERY tight together.

All of Canada's CF-18As were built from production blocks 9 through 23. Their BuNos are 188701 - 188798. CF-18Bs were built from production blocks 8 through 25. They have BuNos 188901 - 188940.

I have a question; I heard on the radio the other day up here that this bird will stop in Bagotville before heading to Trenton. Is this true and if so, when will it come, because I want to take some pics!!!

Any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Wullu

There are no CF-188 with a 401 on the nose. They are either 700 series or 900 for duals. The Seakings are all numbered 400 to 439. These numbers only refer to the airframe number and are mostly used for identifing one airframe from another and to keep track of the paperwork and mainenance actions.

Mario, are you on the MRP/Field Support Unit?

Never said there was.

Regina

The 900 series F-18 are all duals. This means they have 2 seats and are fully mission capable. Unlike other dual a/c they are't just trainers.

As for the person who suggested some of the 400 numbers may be squadron numbers; we only do that for "special" paintjobs. These are only approved by Ottawa for no more than one a/c and for no more than one year. Normally we don't put the squadron numbers on our aircraft because aircraft are wing resources not squadron properety.
Hopefully this helps clear up the confusion

Wullu, I stand corrected. That was Regina I meant to direct the post to.
There was something of yours I liked and meant to comment on.

Now you have my interest peaked! I said something someone liked?

LOL

Hello all:

I haven't been back here for quite some time but thought I would enlighten you on the next purchase that DND will be making.

Its the C130J model Herc to eventually replace our over-extended E model hercs. Word has it that we will be purchasing 17 of them.

No announcement yet.... There has been speculation that Canada could rent some non-strech hercs from the UK. But that is all what I've heard.
