Anyone heard of this Sgt that has been removed from Afghanistan due to his behavior under fire....Global reported on this mornings news that the military released a Sgt for the failure of his actions under fire.

Holy shit!
Thanks for the link.
As I was reading the link, Major General Mackenzie came on CTV Newsnet. He was very professional about what he knew. He didn't call the man down, but mainly discribed his actions as human and explained that under fire everyone reacts differently. Some rise to the occasion and do very couragous things to help their buddies....some even deemed foolish in hindsight...and those who are supposed to be "Leaders" can fail. It comes down to too many virables for anyone to accurately foresee who will re-act well under fire.
As much as I think this story is horrible for the troops who were under this Sgt, I also see a traggic story of a man who will more than likely commit suicide. The feelings of guilt and the loss of the "Manly" title will haunt him until his death. I can't sit here and tell you how much of a fucking pussy he is because I have never been in a situation where I had to face the same conditions as he did. I don't think any of us can sit here and claim we would rise to the occasion, or that we would hide behind a wall to save our own ass. In the grand sceme of things, this just sucks for everyone.
So before you go off and talk about him being a pussy....Consider what you would do....and then forget about it because you never know until you are actually there whether you would shit the bed, or charge the enemy with guns blazing.

I don't think anybody would be stupid enough to call him a pussy. The only ones that can do that are the ones that were with him at the time.
wow
thanks for the link. That was one of the worst days of the mission so far, if not the worst. I can't relate to what happened over there, but his actions at that fight will dictate the rest of his life. He must be fighting some pretty big personal demons right now, I just hope all involved recover completely, emotionaly and physically

Like SJ-24 said "The feelings of guilt and the loss....will haunt him forever" .
The military has a creed: "Death before Dishonour". It is drummed into you from day one.
Though I agree in spirit with hwacker and SJ-24 - simply put he broke faith. He let his men down. These were troop under his command that he let down. I cannot ever excuse that for whatever the reason.
And screw the Globe for publishing BS like this.

I'll try to find the link again but the Sgt in question defended his actions and claimed that he was trying to get help, coordinate fire from the LAV, and reposition his machine gunner. Now I wasn't there so I can't say for sure what happened but it does seem like his troops have no time for this man. He also claims that the MCpl who was quoted was engaged in a battle for control of the section even before they went to Afghanistan and that the two did not geet along with each other.
So before I decide how I feel about this I will await for the return of 1 RCR and talk to some contacts that I have there.

LIke you 2Cdo, I'm waiting for more information on this story. It's easy to call him names but I've never been in combat so I can't judge that which I don't know. It's a hell of a burden for him to live with thou.

We personally can't say any thing about him, unless we were in that situation. But the men that were under him certainly can. Just by how they are describing it, he sounds like Lt. Dike in the battle of foy.

They're certainly not singing his praises.
It doesn't really matter what any one of us would do in that situation. What matters is what he did... and according to those that were there, he deserted them. If that doesn't make him a "pussy" what does?
A rush to judge a guy who's been in combat. I hardly think you are in a position to quantify this guy as a 'pussy' Lily. I have had several mates/aquaintances who have either been diagnosed with PTSD or just cracked up after a combat tour.
Nobody likes it but it's a sad fact that not everybody can hack it.
Your response is in marked contrast to the ex-mil guys here, now I wonder why that is?
lily lily:
The cops call it the "Blue Wall". What do you boys call it?
As you said... not everybody can hack it. According to those who were there this guy couldn't.
Who are you to say otherwise?
Well, I've been in combat. You on the other hand have done fuck all.
lily lily:
Would you want this guy at your back, EyeBrock?
I wouldn't.
I'd rather him than an unemployed dental tech.
He sounds like a coward to me. If it were me I would rather die fighting in honour than dishonouring my fellow men I’m serving with and my family’s name. What a disgrace he should just kill himself. If I did something like that I know I would or would hope the forces would do it for me.

Don't rush to judge Clogeroo.
Bravado sat in front of a keyboard is easy, try the same with 7.62 rounds whizzing about you're head.
And don’t forget, these are press reports. Most of the media are no friends of the military. They love this shit, sells papers and ad space at the expense of some poor bastard we have judged without knowing the full circs.

You could be right the media could just be making things up but still.
As I said if I ever abandoned my fellow soldiers I’m serving with id shoot myself or would want to military to do it for me. Should do what Patton did slap a soldier across the face and send him back out to fight.
