And let's not forget America's Glorious Triumph over Grenada.

   

Ya, so did the Romans.

   

We didn't triumph over Grenada, we triumphed over the Cuban and Soviet troops who were on the island to build an airstrip for Soviet long range bombers. The Cubans and Soviets sponsored a coup and installed a communist dictatorship to facilitate their military goals with the airport which was under construction by a Canadian firm and the Canadian plans called for a public airport, not a Soviet-Cuban military base.

You don't need a 4km runway for even 747's. You need it for overloaded long-range bombers.

In any case, the Soviet and Cuban soldiers fought back despite diplomatic assurances that they would not. I was at the airport engaging Soviet troops when I was shot in the left knee by an Army puke who didn't know Marines had landed at the airport. An SAS medic saved my life and my leg by his quick actions - despite the fact that the UK still officially denies that they supported the invasion the SAS was there to support it.

The result of that action is that the GG restored the rule of law and the Cubans and the Soviets never returned to the island. Absent the Soviet and Cuban sponsorship the communist political faction on the island withered away.

And, by the way, saying we won a war against Grenada in October 1983 is akin to saying we won a battle against France on June 6, 1944.

   

And so did the Natives.
