Anti-Union tirade

CUPE’s Israel boycott angers some members

TORONTO—Members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees angry about their Ontario wing’s boycott of Israel are taking their case to the streets and to the courtroom. As many as 200 members of four Toronto CUPE locals plan to hold an information picket outside CUPE Ontario’s Scarborough offices at noon Friday.
“It’s basically countering anything that (CUPE Ontario president) Sid Ryan has said that Israel has done or not done,” said Lil Nobel, president of CUPE local 2063, which represents about 80 workers.
“It’s about the truisms of what Israel is and why it shouldn’t be boycotted.”
Meanwhile, a University of Toronto teaching assistant is spearheading a lawsuit against CUPE Ontario he hopes will force the courts to clarify how much money a union can spend on causes he says are “manifestly irrelevant” to its members’ interests.
"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss"
Whatever happened to the union leaders looking after it's members? The unions rant against those top hat wearing tycoons raping the proffits from the working man to squander on trinkets or politics, but that's exactly what these a-holes are doing. What the hell does Israel, or any foreign country, have to do with the Public Employees of Ontario?
I'm glad to see the workers fighting back against this abuse of power.
They are forced to pay the union bosses just so they can work, and now their money and time is wasted on matters that are far beyond them.
We're comming to demand more from government, workers should demand more from their unions.
For example, here are some of the vital things the rank and file union members want their leadership to deal with:

Is this a union, or a political party?

Anti, anti, anti! Is it so difficult to speak things positive besides "positive anti" stuff.
Unions are a relic left over from the first part of the 20th century and unlike most relics, they do not become more valuable.

Perhaps! But more expensive, yes!

Here be an idea. Hows about CUPE leadership work toward getting their members the best contract they can and leave running the planet to those folks that have been elected to do the job. Jess a thought.

What are the working wages and benefits like in China?

Totally irrelevant tree hugger, unless you’re asking cause of a coming move which would be a very good thing.
Canada is stuck in the dark ages when it comes to Unions and in particular the huge amount of power the public unions have.
All they do is promote the abuse of power like Sid Ryan's.
And like Sing Song Sims in B.C.

The unions reps were elected to do a job. If the membership continues to elect people that don't really represent their concerns then thats their problem. Just like elections for government it can turn into a popularity contest and the most popular candidate instead of the best candidate may win the election.
Just like political parties they have conventions to decide on union policy which is voted on by elected representatives from the Locals.
The differences between a political party and a union aren't all that great. In fact, I'd say they are very much the same.
Hack on the unions too much and you may find your fears will come true with the creation of a union made political party. They are really only a step away.

In what relevancy?
I hate unions. When I worked for one, they were plenty happy to take my dues but refused to stick up for me when I needed support. And it always galled me that the laziest people survive in a union shop, whereas if they worked in the 'real world', they would be out on their ass. With unions, it always seems to be about seniority and not the effort you put forward.
I admit they were necessary in the 19th and early 20th centuries, because industrialists had no qualms about screwing the little guy and raking in huge profits, but in most of the West nowadays, there are plenty of adequate provincial/federal regulations (depending on the country) protecting employees.
I can see the need for them in in the 3rd world, like China and India, to help prevent abuses like unpaid overtime and dangerous working conditions, and sweat shops, but in the West, they no longer have much of a role.

A lifetime ago I had a similar experience, so I resigned. The other workers were persuaded by the shop stupid (steward) to go on strike because I quit the union. the company then made me a supervisor and the strike lasted 1/2 an hour.
Full circle.....I was now boss over the shop stupid.
My take on unions:

Hey Pat, if you got it, pimp it!
Ridenrain...The bitch's name from the BC Taliban Federation is Jinny Simms. (She's from the Middle East and immigrated here
) I think they've really stepped into it now because the Tax Payers Federation of BC got wind of what they union was really doing and has told them to get fucked. They want a 25% pay increase...Their actual pay goes up by 52% with those benefits added in. We simply can't afford that. Also remember that BC has a large portion of their teachers about to retire...thus that 27% increase in benefits the union hasn't talked about publically. Liers and cheats....they must be Liberals.
I look forward to walking back and forth across the picket line with my cane cracking anyone in the knees who gets in my way . I have no problem beating the crap out of fat lazy union assholes.
The workers in China make what they are worth, and no more. I also support the use of organ from executed prisoners for transplant... From the killing fields to the hospital OR. Nothing like good fresh meat to make someone else's life go on.
Don't forget the golden rule. "He with the gold rules!"
