with the most recent incident in Afghanistan , more debate on the mission has started. as usual the opposition parties are coming out against the mission and they do this only after showing tragic happens there.

my question is simple are the opposition parties specificlly Jack Layton NDP and Stephane Dion Liberal trying to gain political support from the tragic deaths of our troops there.

instead of constently critising this mission they should instead be showing support to our troops and their families when they need it the most.

I think it is a good thing to show concern and cast doubt on a war especially when there are casualties.

I just don't beleive that Dion shows concern, nor do I think he is sincere. He is just bitching for the sake of bitching.

so you don't believe he's genuine , in his concern and he's only doing it for political reasons ?

Well its obvious Dion does it for political reasons only, and the Liberals are always swaying on the issue because they started the war in the first place.

Now I have a feeling Jack Layton maybe does care about the families, and he has been a lot more clear that he wants to leave Afghanistan immediately.

Everything LIBRANOs do is for political reasons and sincerity is a virtue they lack.

I have no doubt they all personally and sincerely care for the soldier's families. Anything after that said by a politician is a total load of crap and is done for political positioning. That goes for all the parties involved.

IMHO

On a personal level I agree, but the minute the media shows up the play acting begins.

The one thing about Layton is that he pushes for all these humanitarian efforts but wants to leave Afganistan because the going is tough. For example, he really wants Canadian involvement in Darfour.
Let's say the Canadians go to Sudan and they become victims of roadside bombs and ambushes. Would Layton then turn around and abandon all missions once deaths occured?

Wally_Sconce @ Thu Jul 05, 2007 11:07 am

Taking away the protection that our Canadian troops are providing to Afghanistan civilians is NOT a humanitarian effort. Jack Layton is a fucking fool.

so you think laytons being sincere but don't feel dion is being genuine , interesting comment.

is that because the liberals originally sent the troops there and are now changing there minds and layton has pretty much always been against this mission , so his opinion has stayed the same ?

DrCaleb @ Thu Jul 05, 2007 12:25 pm

Kind of a decieving question. If politicians aren't doing something to gain votes, then they aren't doing their jobs.

Like the others, I think Jack does believe he is helping families by his actions. (He isn't). I do believe Dion is just another lying sack of manure Liberal, and doesn't believe what he's saying unless the polls tell him to believe it.

And the Taliban's tactics to wear down resolve are working. Now they know they just have to last till Feb. 2009, then they can have their province back.
