Yes, I do agree that historically Canada has been somewhat rude to the native population. That pales, however, in comparison with what was done in the US and Mexico to decimate their populations. In modern times, so it seems to me, we have swayed too far in the opposite direction and that is just as bad. In a country that is supposedly a land of equality why does one segment have so much given to them? While the rest of the country dreams of having their dentistry subsidised like the rest of medicine my Mowhawk friends from up the street have full benefits. That's what isn't fair in 2005. Natives should be equal in Canada; no more, no less.

   

I agree, they have been given special treatment long enough, and this special treatment is the core of what is wrong with there society, it causes the problems indirectly.

Here's an article about Ahenakew, where another First Nations chief states that National Post articles covering his situation will only "INCREASE" native Canadians' hatred for Jews. Notice how he pluralised that one, I'm not sure what his agenda is, but it does make me curious.

Why on earth would Natives have a reason to hate Jews? Maybe they've been reading too many leftist newspapers like the Toronto Star, and watching too much CBC, maybe that's where they get their anti-Semitism from, who knows?

Then everyone calls me stupid and that I must have a low paying non gratfying job. It does not take away from the topic at hand how Canada treats its natives. Just because you are told that Canada is not like the USA and treats all of its citizens fairly does not mean its true.

Mario asked for a link on how Canada was on the UN watchlist for its treatment of its natives. And then you come here harping on this Casino Rama b.s. what's the problem you cant handle the truth that Canada does treat its natives like shit.

   

NYC...No offence but you are making general claims without knowledge of specifics. When asked for specifics you once again post generalizations.

Canada does not have a perfect record when dealing with our Aboriginal Canadians and that is a fact but our neighbours to the south should know the facts before making accusations.

Native run casinos make profits for native bands, although here in Saskatchewan the province does take a percentage of the profits but these profits are used for the good of everyone living here including the natives. The native profits are not used for addiction programs as the natives think that problem gambling is a provincial problem even if it is created by some of these same casinos. These very same casinos that knowingly break provincial laws under the guise of jurisdiction.
