Sapper Sapper:
There have always been conspiracy theories, long before the Jewish zealots made their stand at Masada thee were conspiracy theories,

Were there conspiracies? Most likely.

Today are their conspiracies? Probably.

The thing is if there are, I would venture to guess that they are more for maintaining the world status quo than undermining it. Do you enjoy your way of life?

The basic question is, what are you fighting for? Truth?

You won't find it.

Look, our men and women are in a war. The worst thing we can do is diminish their support. It will only lead to more Canadian men and women dying.

Support the troops. Give them what they need to finish the job and be proud of the men and women who are fighting an ideology like Shariah Law.

By the way count your blessings you live where you can express opinions. I welcome your thoughts and theories but for the sake of the men and women who are there don't undermine their effectiveness by spreading resentment for their presence in Afghanistan.

I support ur troops ... and I don't believe we should put them in harm's way unless it can accomplish a great deal. I and other Canadians are questioning whether the counter-insurgency is useful. Hillier said "We have to build a country." We won't be able to do that if the Afghan citizens turn against our soldiers, which they will as civilian casualties rise. If it is true, as the Brit Captain says, that soldiers can only survive by killing more and more civilians ... we can't win that one.

Have we learned nothing from the US mess in Iraq?

Agreed. It's Hilliers job to ensure that this doesn't happen. The best way for it not to happen is to give the troops what ever they need to accomplish their objectives as efficiently as possible. This would save Canadian and Afgan lives.

However much I deplore seeing our military in combat, I fully support our troops being in Afghanistan. Despite the casualties our troops have suffered, we went into this conflict with the purpose of removing the oppressive Taliban regime that was fostering heroin production and harbouring a terrorist "hierarchy" (such as it was), protecting and supporting a nascent democratic government. That is a worthy goal now, as it was then.

To withdraw too soon would be to have lost our personnel for no reason.

I think calls to withdraw are short-sighted (and most) likely from civilians uncomfortable with the thought of Canadians at war. Sadly reality requires at times that our forces fight. This is not George Bush's war; this is a war for the Afghans, embarked upon by the NATO allies.

(This is not the thread to discuss the degree of commitment displayed by some allies in this conflict, but historically Canadians have never shied away from the "noble fight" which I believes this is, not being one of conquest but one of liberation.

I suggest to all of you who believe that we should leave Afghanistan should go to a book store or get one of your friends who reads something other than the comics to take you and go look for a book called the "Kite Runner" it is written by an Afghanie who now lives in the U.S. It paints a pretty good picture as to what life was like before and after both the Russian and Taliban and why we should be there doing what we are doing

Groups in Canada that oppose our troops being into Afghanistan fall into 4 categories imo and they are the minority.

They are....

A good portion of Quebecers
The CBC
The NDP
And everyone that hates Bush or is anti-American.

A minority that gets way more attention than they deserve.
