Ya, I actually had a Liberal tell me that the Liberals were going to fix the childcare problems. I asked how. She said that they were going to pay for positions for the kids...... I asked how that was going to make for safer and more positions of childcare. The girls said that the government would open more daycares....With a blank look on my face, I didn't laugh at her...I asked her how they were going to do that. Were these positions filled Federal employees? If so, does this mean they are going to open more positions for daycare employees as unionized government employees? If so, will military members be posted into these positions since the budget for this daycare program will surpass the defence budget...DND will have to be closed down, or all taxes upped by 35% to offset the cost of the Liberal Daycare Nightmare.
I have a neighbour down the road that has her mom look after the kids while she and her husband work. She told me that every dime they get for the daycare funding goes to their mother, plus another $1000. When I asked her if she liked the way the program was working for her. She said that if she had of gone with the Liberal program, not only would she not have a spot for her kid because of the extreme shortage of spots around, but she wouldn't be able to get the safest daycare around, her mother. The Liberal program does not allow for family to get paid for looking after the kids. They prefer one of those unionized Liberal daycares. I guess grandparents can't be as trusted as the people that have left kids in cribs and locked up for the night.
So flame away....i know you liberals want to....especially you Always4rectums.
The problem is both the Conservative and the Liberal solutions take away choice.
If you have a mother or grandfather that is retired or has extra time to help out, the Conservative plan is good for you. But if you don't, you're out of luck.
With the Liberal plan if more daycare spots open up and you want to send your kids to daycare you're in luck. If you rather keep them at home you're out of luck.
There needs to be some kind of opt-in opt-out program so you can choose which method works best for you, or else just let the government stay out of the childcare business altogether...
When you look at it, $100/month is a pretty insignificant amount of money and has more to do with politics than policy.
Why don't we call it like the Liberals could "at home welfare” would $1600.00 to $2400.00 a month per kid do?
Would you like your income tax to go up to 45-55% to fund this scam?
Where do we stop?
35 hour work weeks, 8 weeks a year holiday. Why not call it Europe?
Where does it say anything about the government providing day care or funding if you have kids? Where?
Some people think it’s written in the charter. How about you go out and work for the things in life. You have kids you pay for them, I did no help from anyone. What makes others special?
Because they slacked off in high school?
Smoked dope until 25?
Knocked up a girl when they were 17?
Moved to “Canada the utopia” and found out it’s not?
People have to be more responsible for their actions. We don’t need the government involved in things they have no business. Tell me one thing the government does well?
That's my point Hwacker. The government should stay out of the childcare business. I was raised by a single mother along with my other 3 siblings. We had no welfare really in those days and we sure as hell didn't have family childcare cheques rolling in from the government every 30 days. Why suddenly does our society need this involvement and support. Who is responsible for raising and financing you family. you or the government? I think that's the problem with our society. The average Canadian, about 64% at this point, have this sense of intitlement that doesn't really exist. Fact remains Canadians are greedy and need to learn to exist on their own without the government sticking their faces in your business. If you want lots of kids, then I suggest you work out something that means you, or your wife stays at home. That means having a job that pays more than minimum wage. If you can't afford that, may I suggest you keep the jeans done up and masterbate a lot until you can afford to have kids.
I paid for my five kids without government help. Why the fuck should I pay for your kids. Learn to control your own life Liberals. The Conservatives have.
Don't forget this, the NDP wants taxpayers to feed everyones kids also. I saw the announcement, but i think the press basically ignored it, had to go to the NDP site to find anything about it.
Children’s health and nutrition initiative vital

NDP MP calls for national healthy food program
OTTAWA – The Children’s Health and Nutrition Initiative - a proposal to make safe and healthy food available to all of Canada’s children – will help working families address real concerns relating to childhood obesity and malnutrition.
NDP children’s advocate Olivia Chow (Trinity Spadina) says the initiative calls for universal nutritious food programs to make breakfasts, snacks or lunches available to any child in Canada under the age of 18, in venues deemed most appropriate by each local community. This initiative will mean that no Canadian child will go to school hungry.
The initiative was unveiled today in Ottawa by a group of concerned Canadians led by Chow, Dr. Robert Cushman, former Medical Officer of Health for the City of Ottawa, and Ulla Knowles, a parent and Student Nutrition Facilitator at FoodShare Toronto.
Reports indicate that more than seven out of ten children don’t eat the recommended daily minimum of five servings of vegetables and fruit. The number of overweight and obese children doubled among 6-17 year olds between 1979 and 2004, and obesity tripled among Canadian teens. With a far reaching community based program designed to combat both childhood obesity and malnourishment in Canada, the Initiative aims to address these serious health concerns. The initiative reflects input and support from leading nutritionists, food program organizers, health officials, chefs and parents.
“It is time for Canada to show leadership in children’s health, and this practical initiative is an important step,” says Dr. Cushman. “Good nutrition is vital to the health of children – both under-nourishment and obesity carry a heavy cost for families and for society.”
“We have the opportunity to institute healthy practices that will greatly reduce the long term burden of poor childhood nutrition on the health care system and the economy,” said Chow.

Let's keep in mind what is meant by daycare "spaces".
Daycare "spaces" is those subsidized by the government. Not "new" spaces, not new centres, just more money to allow parents to put their kids in a centre and have the costs subsidized to the point where it costs some parents only $8 a day!
There are a ton of daycares with open space, just not enough people can afford to pay for daycare unless it's subsidized.
This is not an issue of lack of space but rather a lack of financial assitance to parents that want to have their kids taken care of and fed for pennies a day!
As I stated before I don't want money, I want a quality daycare spot. I don't want a babysitter, I already got lots of offers there. I want a daycare spot where they have staff that will try different things and aren't stuck on the one thing that 'always works.'
This all just takes parenting out of the hands of parents, and puts it into the hands of the state.
Bad social policy, for fundamental reasons.
There is a concept of separate spheres of society, and powers that fall within those spheres, for a reason.
It only takes parenting out of the hands of parents who aren't parenting anyway which can only be a good thing in my opinion. Maybe those kids will grow up with a little more respect for themselves and for others.
My kid won't need parenting at daycare. He'll just need some challenging activities and social time with others his age while his parents continue to provide the love and care he needs to grow into a respected, confident adult.
