Do cities like Toronto really need federal government aid ?

Let me clue you in, all those condos are owned by liberals and they don't part with their money for anything. This city is full of liberals time to start paying for the BS you spew.
They can talk the talk lets see them walk the walk.
Nomination for dumbest post ever.
This coming from a albertan that knows all. Go FY

That might be a good thing. Why should we subsidize someone's urban lifestyle?
Because they choose to live there? Why should be subsidize someone's rural lifestyle?
Almost half the population of Ontario lives in the GTA. How much money do you think the city raises for Federal and Provincial coffers via income taxes?

Yeah, I've lived in Alberta for a whole 3 months. Ontario for the other 99.8% of my life.
Keep it up, genius.

I think the federal government should help the big cities by setting some priorities as to where it should help.
Climate change and the environment is a national issue and could be one of these priorities and an area where they could help. Keeping people in the city and offering them excellent, affordable mass public transportation will help here if the burden of providing it isn't left to one section of government. As it is now, average people can't afford to work and live in the city so they must commute by car, sometimes for more than an hour, so pollution is being created rather than reduced. This also causes more wear on the roads and more traffic congestion causing even more pollution.
The federal government should do what it can to bring working people back into the cities as part of a national strategy on climate change and emissions reductions.
The people living in expensive condos want somewhere close to eat and shop but the people working in those restaurants and shops commute for miles because they can't afford to live anywhere close to where they work.
Why is Toyota building a manufacturing plant in Woodstock ON? Because the cost of living and ease of transportion for product and people is so much easier and cheaper than locating in the bigger cities. Alot of their parts suppliers are locating their plants in small rural towns because the cost of living is so much less. Probably in the order of 75% less. A $100,000 home in rural town Ontario will cost you $400,000 in or around Toronto and the the $1500 in property tax in Ruraltown would be closer to $6000 in Toronto.
The federal government can help out the big cities by setting their own priorities and goals that fit with national issues under federal control. I certainly wouldn't expect them to just download large sums of money though.

Well living in Ontario and Toronto are 2 different things, obviously you know nothing about Toronto.
But hey, I'll play.

Prove it. Completely unsubstantiated.

and they don't part with their money for anything.
ORLY? You mean they don't want to pay higher and higher taxes? Then why on earth do they keep voting in a government that does nothing but raise taxes?

The CPC should put you in charge of political strategy. Don't like cities? Have fun with your minority government.

OBVIOUSLY. Because I've never lived in Toronto, am I right?

Sheeple just like you. put miller in 2 times and still don't get it. F'N liberals dumb as rocks. I hope Harper cuts them off completely. No votes in this city anyways.
and yes I will enjoy the minority government until
Conservative party has zoomed to 42 per cent

Regardless, it's a ridiculous strategy to ignore the cities. Harper
may be able to eek out a majority, but only because the Liberals are floundering. I'm not sure about that.
1 in 3 people live in Canada's 3 biggest cities. How many seats did the CPC grab in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver?

Don't matter now, If he can do it without the big cities you're in for a big shock. It's called knocking them down a peg or two.
and they need it.

Why am I "in for a big shock"? I don't vote Liberal.
Just because I'm not a CPC-can-do-no-wrong-fanboy, doesn't mean I'm a Liberal.
But again, good strategising. Win a majority and then alienate 80% of the Canadian population? I guess...

Boo hoo hoo. Everybody cry for poor old Toronto.
To flip around martin and Dosanges trite little election crap:
If they want more representation, then they better start voting in more Conservatives.

don't think there is too much sympathy out there for urban centres like toronto , i could only image what everyone out east would think if booming cities like calgary suddenly started beging for money from the feds .
but toronto seems to think its situation is somehow different and that governments are suppose to suddenly cather to them , toronto will likely continue to complain for a while it seems .

If you don't vote CPC you
are some sort of liberal. Stop fooling yourself. (It can't be that difficult)

well the governments haven't been spending too much in rural areas lately so don't complain about those areas geting too much money ,
usually rural lifestyles in many areas include agriculture and its subsidized because farms provide food for the general population mainly in cities.
but the GTA is a booming area hardly worthy/needly of government financial support compared to many other struggling areas .

Do you understand how subsidies work? We have to provide them because farmers are unable to provide food for the general population at a price competitive with the rest of the world.

You keep saying that, but aren't backing it up. The fact is, the GTA raises a lot of money for the two levels of government.
