I ignore the polls as well. Just like I've hung up on the auto-bot calls we've received at home to take part in polls and there have been a few of them regardless of being on the no-call registry for bs calls. Obviously when it comes to politics this does not count.

Wife hung up on one poll last night, me on 2 polls and "Windows Technical Services" today. I used to let them go on and then say I was voting Tory just to fuck up the polls but I can't be bothered to anymore.

Has nobody told Jagmeet Singh that our cell phone bills are just fine as they are? Being stiffed by Bell and Rogers in perpetuity is at the very core of who we are as a nation.

Just heard ANOTHER bullshit cell carrier ad. Get our UNLIMITED and we'll give you 5 more hours!
Infinity +5 is an even better deal....

Polls are an indication of momentum, it is a snap shot. They are designed to be compared over time and when the numbers SHIFT beyond the margin of error and it is sustained then they become useful in forecasting. Macromanagement is not the intended forte.

ANALYSIS: Jagmeet Singh wouldn’t back Scheer but he could back O’Toole

$1:
WINDSOR, ON — Ask a campaigning NDP leader if they would support this party or that party in a potential minority government and every NDP leader is trained to say the same thing: They’re running to be prime minister.

It’s what Jack Layton said. It’s what Thomas Mulcair said. And during a campaign stop here Wednesday, it’s what Jagmeet Singh said.

“I’m running to form government,” Singh told reporters here. “I’m running to be the prime minister because I’ve seen in a minority that New Democrats made life better for people. If we were not there, if we were not present in Ottawa … people would have been far worse off in this pandemic. And that’s motivated me more than ever to be the next prime minister so we can actually help people out.”

White men make up a third of Canada’s population but a majority of MPs — here’s why

Assuming the current MP for my riding runs again, ain't no fucking way I'm voting for that guy. He tried to fight a bill banning conversion therapy. Fuck that guy.

Anyone who doesn't think there is already a two-tiered healthcare system in this country have their heads deep in the sand. The rich and well-off can use their money and influence to get better health care, and almost instantly.

A previous employer of mine (who I am not slamming, as he treated us all well) would routinely use his name and money to deal with family medical things almost instantly, and could summon a doctor friend from a golf course to go to his practice and do whatever needed to be done.

We certainly have elements of a two-tiered system, just look at Saskatchewan's MRI testing backlog - it got WORSE after they privatized it, because the well off can afford it whenever they need it, and the rest get the scraps.

Saskatchewan is the canary in the coal mine warning for what will happen if the Conservatives get their way and allow more privatization in healthcare.

CDN_PATRIOT CDN_PATRIOT:
Peons like the rest of us have to either wait two months for a family doctor (if you have one), or almost a whole day in a walk-in clinic for something stupidly simple. It's been like this a long time, and isn't about to change overnight.

I thought healthcare in Alberta was under stress, but I can usually get an appointment with my family doctor in a couple days. Even clinics usually see people in an hour or two. It's specialists that you need to wait a month or two for.

And that really comes down to funding, nothing else. If healthcare got similar funding to other countries, we'd all have better access, but the right wing MO is to starve the public system of funding so they can say, "See it doesn't work, let's privatize it."

I've gotten into see my Dr. the same day.

If I call that cluster we call a doctors office I’m lucky if I can get an appointment sooner than 6 weeks. If it’s important I might get one of the after hours slots or they say go to the walk-in. Specialist appointments are booked like a year from referral. My son is waiting for a referral after months of knee pain they finally did an mri. Apparently his bone marrow is swelling. GP said he had no idea what was going on so referral and waiting

Before I grew out of my chronic bronchitis a few years back, I called my family doctor one day because I had it worse than normal and needed a prescription for an antibiotic. He said, "Sure, I'd be happy to see you in 7 weeks on -insert date here- for that."

My bronchitis would normally last two weeks. I went to the walk-in as it opened (there were only TWO people ahead of me), and was told on check in that the wait was 3-4 hours. I mentioned that they had just opened and there were only two people in front of me, and the receptionist just shrugged.

We have a health care system in which the nurses and support workers are underpaid and overworked, doctors that are horribly overpaid and can't be bothered to be in office for more than a few days a week, and others that just don't give a shit regardless.

And oh, you just had an emergency and need a hospital ER? Please sit down and wait six hours, and we might be able to help you....

DrCaleb @ Fri Aug 27, 2021 5:50 am

Like the other Albertans, I can see my GP usually 2 -3 days after I call, and same day if I say its important.

I went to the ER on July 1, and basically walked in and straight to a bed with minimum delay. They fixed me up and I was back out in 12 hours.

Seeing as how Health is a Provincial issue, no matter how much a Federal party promises to dish out, the Province gets to manage and distribute it.
We're in the same boat as Housewife here - but it HAS got better doctor-wise in the last 5 years.

Sunnyways @ Fri Aug 27, 2021 12:12 pm

Canada’s health care system is not great when compared to the top European countries, e.g. Germany and the Netherlands, or even Australia which has many of our challenges in delivering care across vast distances. (Switzerland is an exception in multiple ways and may be difficult for us to copy.) The number of people without their own GPs is a disgrace. Being better than the Americans is no longer good enough - nobody wants to copy their chaotic, wasteful model. We need to start looking at how we organize things and be prepared to change anything we have to. If more private care could improve the system, it should be discussed.

I liked Chrétien’s approach to the Middle East - friendly with as many as possible, close to none. Getting too involved over there and aligning ourselves with one or two countries is a mistake.

Conservatives surging with male voters: Nanos data

Strutz @ Fri Aug 27, 2021 4:06 pm

I just checked the Elections Canada website and right now there are no candidates running in my riding. Can I vote early?

However, it does state that the nomination process closes on the 30th and confirmed candidates will be posted on the 1st.
