Imam threatens/warns Canada

Aparrently an Imam has warned that if the police and CSIS keep doing there jobs, we could see terror attacks here in Canada, as if we weren't already a potential target.

A controversial Toronto imam warned Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan at a closed-door meeting to stop "terrorizing" Canadian Muslims.
"If you try to cross the line I can't guarantee what is going to happen. Our young people, we can't control," Aly Hindy, the head of Scarborough's Salaheddin Islamic Centre, recalls telling the minister at the May meeting she held in Toronto with dozens of Muslim leaders.

The police came to me and said, 'This is a kind of threat,' and I said yes," he said. "But it's for the good of this country.
"And they said, 'Do you know some of the names of those people you expect to cause some problems?' And I said, 'You just open the telephone directory.' "

The imam said six or seven young men have approached him to discuss "fighting overseas" in place such as Iraq and Afghanistan.
If they are caught in Afghanistan, by Canadian troops they should be stripped of their citizenship or residency. For that matter, if a Moslem insurgency begins in Canada, Ellesmere Island sounds like a good place to establish a detaining facility, an outdoor one.

Notsomuch. It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into this whole "moslem insurgency" thing, but Hindy is encouraging "nonviolent jihad" -- does that qualify as insurgency?

Mr. Hindy may be encouraging mere civil disobedience as a form of protest, just as Ghandi did. However, many Indians did not heed his request for peaceful protest and there was alot of violence and strife. Mr. Hindy has already warned that violence is quite possible from disaffected youth and how much control does he exercise over them? If he fears that Moslems are being "terrorized"by CSIS and the RCMP now, what does he think life will be like for them if they are implicated in a terrorist act on Canadian soil. Acts of terror on civilians in response to "percieved" injustices from the government will result in open hostility towards the entire Islamic community in Canada, not just the perpetrators of the crimes.

Ah yes, those poor, poor Canadian Muslims, being terrorized by Canada's security agencies and shunned by mainstream society.
My heart bleeds for all those burka-clad Muslim women in Scarborough complaining of all the "funny looks" they get from other Canadians since 9-11, especially when I see Muslim students kicking in the windows of Montreal's Concordia University and knocking over 80 year old Holocaust survivors because they don't like the Universities choice of a speaker.
If only I could do something to ease their plight. But I'm only one man.

Careful MB, there are some anal ostriches out there who will label you a rabid hater of Islam and claim your statement is equitable to the murderous acts perpetuated by the murdering scum in the name of a religion they don't understand(no, I don't believe that they are Moslem militants, they are criminals who kill indiscriminately. End of story).

Depends what Mr. Hindy means by non-violent Jihad. Does that mean civil disobedeance, does it include raising funds for Islamist orginization? And who is this Jihad against? Surly not the "extremist" in there midst who perputrate these acts of terror. Most likely he means the RCMP and CSIS along with the Government. Perhaps Mr. Hindy should be encouraging Muslims to co-operate with CSIS and the police rather then opposing them.
