Liberal fascists?

ManifestDestiny, define fascism. I want to know what you consider fascism to be. (Don't bring me the Wikipedia definition, wikipedia is the equivalent of a politician saying 'the friend of a friend told me' in a serious study).
Exactly. I'd like to see a working definition of "fascism" as well. My prediction - it won't be from an objective text, but some quasi-political website that revels in creating its own lexicon
fas·cism (făsh'ĭz'əm)
n.
1. things I really, really, really don't like.

OK Once again This my def.
Fascism is an authoritarian political ideology (generally tied to a mass movement) that considers the individual subordinate to the interests of the state, party or society as a whole.
That's fairly accurate.
The communists/bolsheviks delighted in mislabling. The DDR (German democratic Republic) was not democratic by any measure. Generally if a country takes the word democratic or People's into it's name it is communist.
Then there is the communist propagated myth that the Nazi's were "Right Wing." One of the key tests of socialism is it's subjugation of the individual by the state. Democracy and socialism are opposites.
Oddly enough the most communist(communal) country is Isreal.
How so sasquatch? I mean with the Israel thing...since I heard alot of their kibbutzs (I think that's what they;re called) are dying off

Well, it's not bad, but there are some issues. Firstly, governmental style (historically manifested) has been totalitarian (not necessarily authoritarian) and while nationalism plays a significant role, you've neglected economic organization (such as corporatism) and social perspectives (for example, fascists tend to think of hierarchy not as social transmission through legal inheritance, but as a biological transmission of racial qualities). In the Nazi variant, the Herrenvolk was the master race whereas biological misfits such as Jews and Slavs were Untermenschen.
In terms of legality, fascists tend to reject the constitutional principle of the rule of law - again, missing from your definition

Funny, Thomas Flanagan placed Fascism as a Rightest ideology in Dickerson & Flanagan's Government and Politics text. You think he's Communist?
Gotta' love that truck-driver education.

I've seen this mentioned around the forums quite a few times. I don't get it.
I studied political ideologies and Canadian liberals are nothing near fascists.
I'm quite new to the forums, could somebody explain to me why people make such claims?
Because they're ignorant yokels who watch too much TV news and listen to too much talk radio, so they hear ridiculous terms made up by propagandists and people who don't know what they're talking about, and repeat them ad nauseum.

No...then what were the Nazis? What was Stalin or Saddam?
Why do the followers of Al Gore shout you down when you question them about global warming? Why do the followers of global warming tell you the debate is over when you attempt a dialog with them?
When you question global warming why does the left call you "a holocaust denier"?
Socialism has killed more people then capitalism ever will....
Socialism never killed anyone. Totalitarianism parading as socialism or communism is what has killed a lot of people.

Well, someone wrote a book, so it must be true!
Wow, Ann Coulter sure has written a lot of books. Lowell Green even wrote a couple. Surely the publishers printed them because they were factual and not just because they'll print anything as long as it makes them money.

Why do liberals accuse conservatives and (bizarrely) libertarians of fascism? If you're going to complain about liberals being called fascists then you'd best start by asking the liberals to stop abusing the term, too.
Because it was social conservatives who came up with the idea of fascism, and executed it.
As for libertarians, that label is often a red herring for people who want the freedom to be assholes without facing the consequences. The kind of people who want to smoke and blow it in people's faces and act like there's nothing wrong with that.

Well then, you must be one, since you are mislabeling communism.

That seems like a rather elementary and even somewhat arbitrary definition of how to determine whether a country is communist or not. Is the Democratic Republic of Congo a communist country?

Well, they were. It's not a myth.

If democracy and socialism are opposites, why is the combination of the two so successful in nearly every modern industrialised nation?

Do you even know who Flanagan is?!?!? Damn, you've really gone and topped your own ignorance this time! Flanagan is Stephen Harper's national campaign director and senior adviser! I guess Harper didn't know that one of his most trusted advisor's and architects of his campaign was a Communist. Brilliant move, samsquantch, as you've just proven how little you know about Canadian politics
That was your best one yet!!!
