Show some respect.

That's why not lowering the flag is bull shit. It's respect. When Harper dies someone might as well go piss on his grave, it would be same as what he'll be doing to the dead soldiers by not lowering the flag. It's dis-respectfull.
Yes keep the cameras out of the funeral, but lower the flag man!

Many Canadians are outraged that the government is declining to lower the flag to half-mast when Canadian soldiers die in Afghanistan. They should not be. It has been the practice for decades to lower the flag for all soldiers on Remembrance Day, when Canada honours its war dead. Only in 2002, when four Canadians were killed in a friendly-fire incident in Afghanistan, did the previous Liberal government beginlowering the flag for individual soldiers who died in combat.

So now the left and the CBC want to make this a political thing.
Sad :? How come no one had a problem with this untill now?

Well...RK said the flags will be lowered in Alta whenever an Albertan soldier is killed.....he also said that his wasn't the only province who would be doing this. Personally I thought at first that it was disrespectfull(not to lower)....then some people who serve(d) in the forces said it didn't much matter to them.....now if it doesn't matter to them, should it matter to me?

As for banning the media from showing the bodies coming home.....well if it was someone from MY family coming home...I wouldn't want the media there. Maybe thats just me though. So I could understand that.

I think we should ask the guys/gals in the Military........and what ever they feel is appropriate would be fine by me.

Philscot....you know any Duecettes...or Deckers...or Thomas's...or Prests from Muskidobit(?)....I used to know a bunch of people from there up in Ft St John. Fuck did we drink alot.

I think this is more liberal media bull shit hype trying to stir the pot regarding the flag and the the bodies.

Remember that Mst Cpl Cdn sniper in Afghanistan that saved a couple of dozen American Rangers that were pinned down by taking out an Taliban
mortar team at record breaking distances.

The American Military wanted to give him an American Medal for his actions,
very rarely done. The Liberals at the time said "no medal for you"
Theres more hype now over a flag than there was for that back then, its gross PDT_Armataz_01_19

Showing the bodies coming home shows the very real effect of the political decision to go to war. Harper is doing his best to keep that from us.

Dont you have internet rev? Know how to search? Lots of pics of bodies in afghanistan if you really just HAVE to see some. Your really scraping the bottom of the barrel if you have to use someones death and funeral to further your commy agenda.

I got an idea rev,you go and make yourself up a big old protest sign and head down there to make your point.

Most people get their news from the tv, Ziggy. Harper is trying to control public sentiment by controlling what they see on that news.

Yeah, it has effect, but so does saying who has died. So does showing their previous pictures. Political decision? I thought this was a NATO decision. Harper is doing his best to respect the fallen. All you can think about is your political agenda, and it makes me sick.

And there's no coverage on tv? Like I said,if it means that much to you make up a protest sign and head on down,I'm sure you will make the news and get your message out to the mass's.

You wanna see them, get your ass over to the middle east.

If we showed the bodies of little aborted children on the front page you'd be the first to bitch about that right?

Stop trying to make this a political pissing match.

We don't hear squat about the good that's being done over there.
Kids can go to school, Women can go out and some folks can even convert to other religion, almost.
We just had a huge nulti-national operation that went off as a great success. Did the CBC mention it?

No, because they are in a political BS fight with Harper and it's better optics to show dead Canadians. When I hear the forces grumbing over a lack of respect, I'll pay attention because their opinion is the one that matters. When we hear Layton, Dosange, and the rest bleating, we know it's just political BS and it reflects very poorly on them.

All I'm doing is responding to Harper's political position. Your fawning sycophancy towards him even if it costs Canadian lives makes me sick.

I have no issue with the Canadian flag not half-masting on the peace tower. How many Canadians died in the two world wars and how often was the flag half-masted? Never. We remember them, all of them, on Nov 11th. However, the timing is bad - it might be that they're trying to hide the numbers, but it might not be. There would be less said if the decision had been made a month or a year ago.

The CF never has to ask permission to ban the media from viewing/doing anything on a Canadian base. I don't think the public needs to see the bodies coming off the plane. Any type of memorial service should be on TV, like the four Mounties in Edmonton, so that anyone/everyone can pay their respects and grieve and achieve some closure with their families and friends and the rest of the country.

How is this a political position? The man wants the soldiers family who fought for our freedom to have peace, and grieve in peace. You want to turn this into a political thing. So agreeing with the war means I "fawn" over harper? Yeah, it is costing Canadian lives, and that is horrible, but why not give those lives, and those families some god damn privacy.

I agree with Hester. The media is still allowed at the memorial of the fallen soldiers. They don't need to be at the plane.
