ryan29 @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:57 pm

with only 50 polls left and a big lead have any of the media outlets declared rob clarke elected out there ? just wondering

westmanguy @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 7:59 pm

Rae is speaking, so the media hasn't declared anything yet.

ridenrain @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:00 pm

"The Liberals have recieved some positive news tonight.. " says the talking head on tonights CBC news. Then off to Bob Rae and then Dion brutally savages the english language by trying to say something..

ryan29 @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:07 pm

liberals have a 200 vote lead in the quadra , any idea where these votes are coming from in the riding , is there more conservative or liberal polls there ?

but the fact the a former liberal stronghold is close say something about dion and the liberals . and ndp is geting embarrassed agian behind the greens there as well

westmanguy @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:16 pm

They declared it.

CTV declared we (CPC) won the Northern Sask riding.

Quadra is within 400 votes still, nice upset though.

Quadra was supposed to be a "Liberal Stronghold"...so much for "strong"

Assuming that the conservatives win in BC and Saskatchewan, what do you think Prime Minister Harper reaction will be?

I think he'll be a gentleman like he has been in the past, not rub it in, not even talk about it. Unlike Jack last by-election who went around claiming he was going to save us from the liberals.

ShepherdsDog @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:21 pm

Four Liberal Seats: 2 remain Liberal, 1 was lost to the Conservatives and the other is a close one between the two. Sorry if anyone thinks I'm reading anything into the results, but it looks like the Tories have gained 1 and possibly two seats that they didn't hold before.

The people were voting for the candidates in the Toronto ridings, not endorsing Dion. Any loss no matter how small is problematic for him.

mapleleafsnation @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:23 pm

Whatever happens to the last one, the liberals lost.

I really enjoy being proved wrong (my first few spots claimed liberals would be elected everywhere).

ryan29 @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 8:25 pm

well i'll find out who wins tomorrow , i need a computer break and tired of looking at the screen.

but so much for the idea of a liberal sweep if nothign else .

Conservatives are losing ground in BC.

mapleleafsnation

$1:
Conservatives are losing ground in BC.

Really how?
This started with 4 former LIBRANO ridings.
If the LIBRANOs won all they won nothing....
If the LIBRANOs won all the CPC lost nothing....
In short the only potential losers are DION, the LIBRANOs and the NDP.
With quadra such a renouned safe seat.....a CPC loss is impossible...however a close win for the LIBRANOs is still a loss.
The Greens polling more than the NDP is in principle a win---whether they gain a seat or not.
The LIBRANO causus meeting should be interesting........

mapleleafsnation @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:03 pm

Sorry let me rephrase that.

Relatively to how the counting of the votes began, the conservatives are losing ground (in BC).

My bad.

I agree with what you said though.

westmanguy @ Mon Mar 17, 2008 9:05 pm

Here is the big stories of the night:

1) The Conservatives took the Northern Saskatchewan riding. The Liberal loss here lies firmly on Stephane Dion's shoulders for his undemocratic appointment of Former Provincial Sask NDP Cabinet Minister, Joan Beatty.

2) The so called "Liberal Stronghold" of Vancouver Quadra, is not so strong. Joyce Murray will probably pull it out in the end, but the fact is, this is a moral loss for the Liberals, because the vote spread is less than 6% difference.

3) The NDP came behind the Greens in Toronto Centre and Willowdale, further hurting the NDP brand.

I hope the Libranos win all 4 seats then Stephane Dion will be encouraged to pull the plug on the Gov't so we can finally have a CPC Majority that we rightly deserve!
