child care

$1:
Four community task forces were set up in Halifax, Vancouver, Martensville, Sask., and Cambridge, Ont., to look at how child care could be strengthened.

All of the groups -- which consisted of about 20 to 30 parents, business people and local residents -- said they wanted integrated services and they wanted it publicly funded, said study director Jenny Robinson.

"What we find is that if parents have money to buy services, there are still no services to buy, so we need to build a system,'' she said.

The YWCA operated the task forces from fall 2004 to fall 2005.

So,... tops, 120 people, meeting at current child care provider, decided that child care should be publicly funded.

Well, yeah...

What are the odds that I could get 120 people in four bars to say they think beer should be publicly funded?

Dued your avatar is getting me all worked up ...your a milf a canadian milf...huba huba. 8O ps that is exactly where most of the daycare dollars will wind up(the bars) if it is giving to the masses.

In a poll, 8 out of 10 BCGEU members would like to run a daycare. In a poll of BCGEU managers, they think they already are! :D
Maybe we should ask parents with children in BC schools if they want teachers handling the day cares too.
I'm sure the BC teachers would rather sub contract the whole thing to North Korea so they could have 12 months off instead. :D

I gonna post this just to give you some pespective on this issue.

Some may think that a nationnal day care program is a left wing idea. But affordable childcare for all has also a positive impact on the economy.

In the mid 90's in Québec Pauline Marois reform the welfare system with massive incentive (Job training, etc) to help people get off wealfare. It did work for most but a portion could not go back to work simply because childcare was to expensive for them to work and still afford to pay there bill. With the creation of the CPE thousand of single wealfare mom where able to join the workforce.

But this did not only impacted single mom but also many young familly who now could increase there income and buy home.

Well that my two cent's

Good affordable day care is important but I don't see that as being the same as a federal program:

Two Quebec daycare workers fired after closing up and forgetting toddler

Canadian Press
Published: Friday, March 17, 2006

LAVAL, Que.—Two daycare workers in Laval, north of Montreal, were fired after they forgot a sleeping toddler inside their daycare and went home for the night.

The mother of the 21-month-old baby arrived around 6 p.m. Tuesday night to find the day care’s doors locked and the lights off.

She called 911 and firefighters smashed a window to get her child.

The daycare’s executive director, Myriam Taillefer, says the two workers failed to follow proper procedures when closing up for the day.

The daycare centre’s board of directors decided to fire them and parents seem to be satisfied with the decision.

$1:
The final price tag for Quebec's day care program is 33 times what was originally projected: It was supposed to cost $230 million over five years, but now gobbles $1.7 billion every year.

I believe a well regulated and inspected private industry, could be just as good and much more cost effective to the kids, the parents and the day care providers.

I dont think it matters if you give parents the money or offer the free child care. But if you give the money, than you have to give enough for that child to be in day care. So lets look at how much that would cost $6/hour from when the child is born until they are 4 (8am to 6pm) and can get into JK, then half day after that (noon to 6pm) then just after school and on odd occassions (3-6pm, +5 hours per week plus summers)until age 11 and this would cost...

$6x5days a weekx10hours per dayx52weeksx4years=$62,400 that is until age 4
6x5x6x44+200 a week during the summer for summer camp cause it is cheaper=12,160
20x44x6x7+200x8x7=48,160
Grand total for child care to age 11=$122, 720

So if the government wants to give that much to every family, per child than that would work too. ALthough it would probably be better if they put it into some sort of trust so it was making intrest and then they could give less and parents could not jsut spend it on whatever they wanted. Ther eis no way that the governmnet would pay that much though, it would be insane. IT is far cheaper for them to have a day care program, and thus they do.

I have an idea, how about we just lower taxes. Then I can benefit even though I don't have children, and families can pay for there own child care.

Zoraja @ Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:39 am

Sure, we'll lower taxes and just not have any heath care, that sounds like a great plan

I said lower taxes not eliminate taxes. WTF.

Our taxes are not even that bad. Stop complaining.

Who the fuck is complaining, it was a fucking statement. Where do you find me saying taxes are high?

Elvis @ Tue Mar 21, 2006 6:48 am

RUEZ your suggestion will give some, more money to spend back in the economy but it will not organize affordable childcare for all. You see for that to appen you need state like organization like a province for exemple.

First off why do we need to contorol what parents spend thier money on mabey the children are paid off and the money could be spent on beer and popcorn or mabey the family needs a new car more then diapers, secondly why are we haveing a national debate over childcare? Healthcare is not perfect and child care won't be much better.

I'm not even sure that the Conservatives compermise was a good idea when there are people in urgent need of tax cuts.

Zoraja @ Tue Mar 21, 2006 6:57 am

Who is in urgent need of a tax cut???
