Precisely. Under the circumstances the Liberals are doing just fine.
And this poll doesn't factor in the impact of Harper's very recent attempt to sanitise war à la Bush by muzzling the media regarding the four dead in Afghanistan.
The point is that despite the media's scathing criticism, and the predictions of many that "As soon as Canadians see how Harper will sell Canada out to the US they'll boot him out", Tory support appears to be rising.
It appears Canadians aren't particularly frightened by that "Scary" Stephen Harper anymore.
What are you guys going to run a campaign on now that we've taken that card away?

This fiasco with the four dead soldiers will do very nicely in reminding people of who the real Stephen Harper is. A Dubya wannabe.

I don't believe it and I don't not believe it.
It sounded good, but then I liked a point suggested by Streaker that it
didn't include the recent Afghanistan news. That may be true, or not, depends when the poll was taken, so I looked for a link to the original story, and didn't see one.
So I don't really know much about it.
It does seem probable.

Do you know that they've actually done studies about elections and polls. (This is serious.) Thery were American studies.
What they found was that after an election, they would do a poll and find that more people would say they had voted for the winner than the actual percentage of victory.
I think the percentage increases over time as well.
So Smith gets elected president with 53%, and a year later 58% will say they voted for him, and three years later 65% will say they voted for him. this even works with Smith's approval ratings dropping.
It seems that people want to identify with the winning side.
People just say all sorts of weird things to an opinion pollster.

I don't recall a Canadian government that ever won an election with a pure majority of voter support. It's very difficult to do in our 3 party system.
The last pure majority winner was Brian Mulroney, with 50.03% of the vote.
Also, BluesBud, I find it difficult to disagree with anyone who shoved Avro's face in it.
