New Poll Has Tories Into Majority Territory!

How exactly have they taken that card away, Tricycles?
Well, the poll results would indicate growing numbers of Canadians aren't particularly scared of him.
More importantly though, anyone putting partisanship aside for a second realizes that the campaign of fear the Liberals used to paint Stephen Harper as a "scary" ideologue eager to "sell us out" was nothing more than cheap politics.
Harper has been the PM for months now, but Canadian kids still aren't pledging allegiance to the Stars and Stripes in school are they?
The Royal Canadian Dragoons still haven't been deployed to Iraq, have they?
I haven't seen the government introduce a bill outlawing abortion, have you?
It's going to be pretty hard for you guys to keep trying that strategy next election when we've been the government for a year or so and things are running just fine.
What are you going to replace it with?

This fiasco with the four dead soldiers will do very nicely in reminding people of who the real Stephen Harper is. A Dubya wannabe.
Plenty scary.
Go on over to the "Lowering the Flag/Repat Ceremony" thread. You'll soon find that the vast majority of military people, both serving and former, agree with Harper. Considering their opinion is the one with the most validity, I don't think Harper has much to worry about.
After all, I don't think we were ever going to get the Streaker, Rev Blair or Derbyx vote anyway.

It's interesting. If the next election is a repeat of the last election minus the Liberal's screaming that Harper is the Beast of the Apocalypse, then
what will they have left?
"Vote for us because we like being in power and have mortgage payments to make."

I don't recall a Canadian government that ever won an election with a pure majority of voter support. It's very difficult to do in our 3 party system.
The last pure majority winner was Brian Mulroney, with 50.03% of the vote.:
That's right. I forgot. I think that was the largest share of the vote any PM ever acheived. Correct me if I'm wrong.

It depends on who wins the leadership race.
Bob Rae:
"Yeah, I led the most unpopular government in Ontario's history, but I'm Liberal now, so give me a second chance! Rae-Days and "White Males Need Not Apply" hiring for all!
Stephane Dion:
"Because we need to lose every seat in Quebec, not just most of 'em!"
Scott Brison:
"Because floor-crossers are so fashionable right now. It's not like every disillusioned Canadian watching me at the debates won't be reminded of Belinda, Martin, Emerson and...um...ME!
Martha-Hall Findlay;
?
Bye bye Libs.
Enjoy your future as an opposition MP working on constituency issues Belinda.

I like Martha Hall Findlay and Carolyn Bennett. They both have ideals, and they both have morals. They truly believe in what they speak, and I feel that is admirable.
Unfortunately, neither will win.
Also Avro, by shove your face, I meant like shut you up. You rarely do it, you just go around picking fights and stirring shit.
Yay! More Conservative majorities! And once we realise what we've done(eg. Mulroney), we're gonna smack ourselves on the forehead and vote in the Liberals again, who will have to clean up all the shit...
Canadian politics is such a bloody circle......

Also, MCB, Diefenbaker won 53.66% of the vote in '58.
Edited to add:
Arctic, Mulroney was not a Conservative.
He was a tiny c conservative.

Oh yeah, the liberals cleaned up the military real well.

Isn't that what the present government is doing, undoing 12 years of Liberal ineptitude.

Wait a tick, did you get this article in the Star? That's where I found it, try linking your posts sometimes.
It must be a Liberal plot if it's in the Star.
I thought the fact it said "Canadian Press" in the byline would have been enough for you to figure out it's a wire story, therefore, will be picked up by every major media outlet in Canada.
If I know you'll be reading, then in future I'll be sure to explain basic journalism 101 when I quote an article.

Point noted about Dief.
I think you've got it reversed about Mulroney though. A "Small c conservative" is someone who is ideologically a conservative. Preston Manning or Stephen Harper.
A "Large C Conservative" is someone who doesn't really have any particular ideological affiliation and is simply a member of the party. Mulroney or Joe Clark.
The same goes for small and large L libs.
