Anyhow some of the questions that is on this forum are really good and I didn't know the answer too so i went and asked some people I know. One person I asked is a political science professor and one of Canada's experts on election reform. The one question that got me was what happens if someone cross's the floor and the response I got was that the person would not be aloud and would only have to option to leave his/her position and the next person on the list would take that persons place. The other question was on that a mpp that is elected off the P.R. lists would not be accountable especially to a geographical area like the mpps whoa re elected by the FPTP. This I found is not true, one thing many people forget including myself is that politicians are people too and like everyone else they have to live somewhere. Also when the party's make the list's they will have to consider were the people on the lists live. They want people on the lists from places that they don't have a chance of winning (preferably at the top of the list) and that person will set up his/her office there. So you can have a very conservative riding like mine and still have a Liberal or NDP representative in your riding or in the next one. As well with this as you can guess has the potential of giving the under represented north more mpp's.

sure these new mpp's would be representing regions but they would be very large areas in size . they wouldn't get to know very many of their constituents like current mpp's do.
an example region would be the entire northern ontario , an area very big and spread out .
they would really just be a partisan mpp with little purpose other than represeting there parties interests.

Remember its just a 20% increase in size. Its not that big of a change from what we have now. I do believe they would represent people around were they live and bring issues that they see in the community's they live in.
NO

going to bring this topic back as this referendum is taking place on wednesday .
please only comments about the referendum and not about other things related to the election .
has anyone any opinons on this referendum so far , do voters understand the question ? and are they even interested or aware of this ?
is elections ontario ad campaign helping out or not ?
The main advantage to FPTP is the ability to directly "throw the bums out". With this MMP thingy, they can sneak back in to continue.
Politicians like diapers should be changed often for the same reasons.
Minority governments usually achieve little and are unstable. majority governments even sad ones like the Rae government are at least stable.
MMP virtually guarantees minority governments.

wondering have any of you noticed that the politically uninterested people have no idea what this question is about, know my mother asked me about it and asked me to expalin what it was about and all i could offer was the brochure put out by elections ontario which is way too confusing for the average person to understand , well i understand it but if your not into politics its a tough read .
The Australian system is one we should have had a chance to vote on...pick your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. choice on each ballot.
Instead, we had to choose from the staus quo or that half-baked proposition that would have added more seats unnecessarily.
Look closely at the Ozzie system. It works well.
Yesterdays election indicates the Ontario voters did the usual.
They made a correct decisions for all the wrong reasons.
They rejected MMP out of ignorance, but still the right move.
They rejected Tory out of ignorance as well----for the wrong reason.
While the faith-based schools was spun into the latest manifestation of the "hidden agenda", the origin of that was really the same clique that produced Kim Campbell. That they rejected Tory may be just as well.
The Fed LIBRANOs have a loser in Dion and the OPC had Tory.....who is now history.

well at least i know more that the almost 50% of ontario voters which didn't even bother to vote in this referendum or election .
political apathy now rules ontario it seems , none of the above would of been a higher % last night then the liberal vote of 41% .
unfortuantly none of the above doesn't count in our political system and some party gets to form a government .

Wrong. They're poor citizens, but they still probably know more about politics than you. You're operating at the Yeti Boy level and there's nowhere to go but up.
