Ontario Leaders Debate

It wasn't the Liberals who made the announcement regarding funding to faith-based schools.
It was kind of a politically naive move by John Tory to do it, and doesn't really make sense. He doesn't come from a political background, but someone on his staff should have realized what would happen by making that announcement. Not sure how you can blame Liberals for a PC mistake.
The announcement was a gift from the PCs to the Liberals.
What do you expect them to do? Not run with it?
agree the faith bases school announcement wasn't the best idea , but as campaign is developing other issues will and have emerged .
some include health care , leadership , crime .
have heard from some campaign offices there have been a few people come in and complain about the faith issue specicfially , but also some have came in to support it.
so its had to figure out if it really is a top issue or if a few people are concerned .

the debate is on now, whats everone think so far of it, if you happen to be watching it ?
ryan29 @ Thu Sep 20, 2007 4:55 pm
my comments on the debate , so far as its actually almost over
tory - has looked very good but faced some tough questions on previous pc government and some attacks from mcguinty.
mcguinty- hasn't looked that good tonight, did have some tough questions for tory and hampton but not sure they worked
hampton- didn't do as good as was expected tonight, had a few good points but not his best night.
It wasn't mcSquinty's finest hour.
Nature has bestowed a weasel-like appearance to this man and he is personifying it.
The chin-less wonder squirmed and dodged....and looked like he was.
Hamptom got in some excellant shots which mcSquinty could not address. Tory threw so stuff out which left McSquinty reeling...especially crime. Catch and release?

McSquinty tried to run with the faith based schools thing but stumbled badly.

tonight made dalton mcguitny look very bad and its clear he lost the debate . only managed to score a few old harris era points against tory , who should of came out and pointed out he wasn't even in the legisalture during all that.
another loser to an extent tonight was hampton, who did ok but not great and also never mentioned what he would or will do in the event of a minority government .
tory positioned himself well tonight and i think ontario voters have finally meet john tory, the day the liberals have been fearing for 3 years .

Also, and I'm surprised there hasn't been discussion on it, but Ontarians are also voting on electoral reform to adopt an MMP policy.
I'll be watching that one with great interest.
Yeah its as clear as mud from what I heard...
You would be correct. There is almost no info on it being obviously given.
Tricks,
I've gotten my referendum guide in with my voter's card AND twice in the mail. The province is working hard to get both the question and relevant info out to each resident. It's just the news outlets not aping out on it.

What I saw was LIBRANO propaganda at taxpayer expense. Still clear as mud----if the LIBRANOs want it? No-way.
I think there are an awful lot of other more important issues than faith based schools being ignored in Ontario. In other words it's a smoke screen! How about protecting jobs , or making sure we have one excellent education system that actually teaches the next generation how to straighten out the mess were leaving them. I say were leaving them a mess because we haven't done a thing about getting rid of the bozos we have running things. I'm getting to the point that in my opinion all our politicos are just a waste of oxygen, and skin!
It's clear what the Liberals tactic is this election and during the debate.
Scare Ontarians.
That's what Liberals do.
They scare voters into voting for them. How can they run on their record?
Tory is going to ruin public education and health care. He's also Mike Harris in a costume. Right?
The Federal Liberals made Harper out to be scary....it worked the first time and the second time...voters caught on. This time will be the same. Voters will look beyond the scare tactics.

If it hadn't been for a random obscure booth set up in the Caf at my university, I would not have even known there was a referendum taking place.
EDIT: Unless they want to get info to voters ONLY, which is pretty fucking stupid.

The referendum is sponsored by the Citizen's Assembly on Electoral Reform, which is both independent of the legislature AND advised to by all three of the major parties in Ontario (contrary? Yes!). Consequently, what exactly in the voter guide caused you to believe that it was "Librano" propaganda or that it was endorsed by the Liberal party? I've got mine right here...I don't see anything.

the referendum hasn't got alot of attention and i'm guessing many voters won't even know what to do when they see the ballot on election day.
seriously there are no signs , campaign offices or much info being distributed on this referendum .
and the liberals haven't came out and supported it (or said why they even decided to call it) either , what a waste of $ ???? million dollars.

agree many issues have been ignored during the first 3 weeks of the campaign, mostly this is because the liberals have choose to run a fear/smear campaign similar to the one aimed at stockwell day in 2000. this time the smear campaign is based around faith based schools, back in 2000 it was more a anti rural / anti western smear campaign .
and don't forget the smear campaign in 2004 aimed at harper , which focues on iraq, same sex marriage and health care.
it seems the liberals have nothing better to run on, also many of dalton mcguintys top advisers/insiders are the same liberals who worked with federal liberals.
I read the Ontario Conservative Party election platform, or at least scanned it. There’s more money for health, education, infrastructure, environment, the north, farmers and tax cuts. A myriad of small programs will be looked after. Nothing is left out. It’s true what the newspaper have been reporting: That John Tory is a motor mouth policy maker. In fact it’s a carte blanch, leaving him free to do just about anything that comes up. He says, "Trust me".
The language of the document is this syropy, upbeat PR that tortures every topic. It's impossible to read closely.
