Restoring Canada Starts With Reinstating the Long-Form Censu

First they came for the census refusniks. Then they came (again) for the gun owners. Then they came with death squads to wipe out all the pit bulls that were so scary to spandex - clad dope - smoking prostitute -visiting cyclists. It scares me! Get rid of it! cryeth the cyclists, and the government came riding (on bicycles, no less) to the rescue of the pathetic shivering waifs .....
Clear this up for me, I'm confused. Is this spandex, clad dope, smoking prostitutes visiting cyclists or spandex clad, dope smoking, prostitute visiting cyclists?
Six of one, a half dozen of the other. Either way they all suck.

Without that information, future planning will cost more, and do less. Sounds like a bargain to me!
Census data doesn't matter when politicians make snap decisions and promises during a campaign.
That goes back to the dirty little secret about government, the politicians may make policy but it's the bureaucrats that actually accomplish things. And the bureaucracy can't make decisions on things like where to build new schools without information like where all the children live.

Funny, because in Ontario, the Ontario Liberals pulled the plug on two projects, vetted and approved by bureaucrats, so they could win an election.
To say that the politicians don't have the power to make these choices themselves just isn't true.

Asking how many children you have is also on the short form census and is a basic inoffensive question. What was offensive on the previous long for census were questions where Canadians that have been here for centuries were obligated to provide an ethnic background other than "Canadian " just do the Liberal government of the time couldn't play ethnic bingo and design programs for their political advantage. It had nothing to do with providing better services and everything to do with suckholing specific ethnic groups to corner their votes.

Double
One thing Stats Canada was never accused of doing, was being careless with personal information acquired through the census. They didn't even care if you gave your real name, just that your answers were accurate.
But to run the country, this information was vital.
A ton on information for cities, business to make viable decisions was lost.
The removal of the long form was to satisfy Harper;s base.
Canada census went form one of the best in the world to poorly rated is what i understood.

That's good, because I didn't say that now did I? Sounds like your politicians were making policy, just like I described. And when they promise new schools, who is that makes sure they get built?

If the politicians make policy and the bureaucrats get things done, that example shows that not only do politicians make policy but they can get things done and go over the heads of those bureaucrats.
Census data and the decisions of bureaucrats didn't matter in this case, and many others.
Won't restoring Canada be to put in an order for blue helmets for the Canadian forces.
Thanos @ Thu Oct 22, 2015 2:11 pm
Hopefully JT will know how to put the helmet on properly unlike the last Liberal PM who visited a danger zone.
Lemmy @ Thu Oct 22, 2015 2:59 pm
Harper didn't need a helmet. He brought his own everywhere he went.

Yes because looking at the addresses that are provided to the schools is obviously way too difficult.
andyt @ Fri Oct 23, 2015 7:28 am
OMG. They're asking for the addresses of kids? What's next, asking their names? Then they'll want to know ages and genders. OMG. This is obviously some sort of vast pedophile conspiracy by the school boards. Who knows what they do with that information. I blame Justin.

How can you provide addresses to schools that haven't been built yet for kids not old enough to attend yet? How do you know where to build the school if you don't know where the kids live?
This is the exact problem Edmonton has been running into the last few years, in part because they don't have good data. People are moving into the new south west suburbs, but more families are moving into the areas where school construction has been delayed by previous governments. That means young kids have to spend 45 minutes to an hour on the bus every morning and afternoon, while the place where the school is going to be sits empty across the street.
A decent census in 2010 would have shown this information, so the schools could have been built before the kids were old enough to attend.

Good point but it wouldn't have been fixed by an offensive and politically loaded ethnicity based census question and a threat to fine anyone who only used "Canadian" as an answer.
