Screw Bono
xerxes xerxes:
A legitimate concern, but unwarranted in Bono's case. Do you really think U2 needs to sell a few more records or DVD's? They've only sold millions upon millions, yet can't make ends meet.
If they aren't interested in selling thier
product then why tour? Why continue to shill mercandise like T-shirts at $40 a pop? Why make the Vertigo DVD in the first place? Admittedly, I've not actually watched it, but by all accounts it's typical rehash with a smattering of 'previously unreleased' material. Standard formula for making a quick buck without actually doing anything new.
U2 is as much a brand name as Coke or Compuserve.
xerxes xerxes:
Besides, what better place to rag on someone that in their own backyard?
Too right, I just think the timing it suspect.
Beside, everything U2 has done since that Popmart trash has been insignificant pop crap anyway. They should have stopped at Rattle and Hum.

True enough, but do you think Bono's sermonizing on political issues helps U2 sell more records? I doubt it.

Did Cobain's lashing out at mediocrity sell records? Listen to
In Utero - it was an album about everything that he hated about his own fans and yet it sold millions of copies to mediocre suburbanite kids.
Did the media circuses that fell out of 'Striagh Outta Compton' or 'Cop Killer' hurt record sales for NWA/Ice-T?
There is no such thing as bad-press.
Bono and U2 have made a career out of political sermoinsing. Of course, I have a lot less problem with thier sermonising to end aparthied or stop the violence in Northern Ireland. Back then they were intelligent, well-informed and most importantly an upstart political rock-band with grand ideas. Now Bono/U2 is a brand-name shilling pseudo-awareness, propped up by an 'organisation to spread awareness' that makes no tangible contribution to the cause they so readily support.
Somewhere between:
Broken bottles under children's feet
And bodies strewn across a dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
Puts my back up
My back up against the wall
and...
You know you're chewing bubblegum
You know what that is
But you still want some
You just can't get enough
Of that lovie dovie stuff
Let's go
Let's go
Discothèque
I stopped listening.

Well Son, maybe if you'd learn to drive properly you would have plenty of cash left over for your family. After all, speeding tickets are expensive!

My sister was at the U2 concert last night Bono told the crowd, 18000 not to vote liberal

That is crap, he is an entertainer, then FUCKING entertain and shut your cakehole. I hope Martin tells the House U2 Sucks.
WOOT
While i like the Liberals a whole lot less than U2's music Bono can bag-lick me. No rock singer from another country is going to tell me how to vote in my own country. Or tell me how to spend my foreign aid/tax dollars. Especially when that rockstar makes money with a shovel playing his whole activist schtick.

wooo the LIberals are restless (enter headless chicken here)
When he's in our country he's
entitled to his entitlements, that is the same rights as you have, free speech. So he's welcome to say whatever the hell he wants, you don't like it maybe you should move to were free speech is controled like China or North Korea.
And whats with the hate for rich musicians, you sure some of you aren't NDP?.
Bono's main gripe was Martin made a promise and broke it, If MArtin knew he couldn't of followed up on it or had no intention to he should of said so from the get go. If you had a friend that made a promise and broke it you would be pissed and might mention it to a few people, the only difference Bono has a much bigger soap box to stand on than you.
don't be pissed you cant play guitar
You are a frickin idiot. If Bono was from Canada he would not be as crushed as he is because
he would have seen this coming. Hello! This is the Liberal PM we are talking about here, turdburglar!LOL WereB]you[/B] surprised when Bono found out he got F@#ked by Paul Martin? Cuz I wasn't. I think PM made Bono his Lil bitch and didn't realise it till it was too late. Too bad, sooo sad.
PS: I do play guitar, numb nuts and I bet I play better than Bono. Not Edge, but Bono for sure. And I know a bullshitting Liberal Party politician when I see one.

I don't think he's suprised ,after all he's dealing with a politician. He's just calling him on it is all. So what? thats my point. Its a deal made between 2 consenting adults where they both used each other Martin promised one thing and now Bono is saying he's an ass for not delivering whats wrong with that, Bono held up his part of the deal Martin didn't....
Playing the corel centre for 1800 is a parking lot gig to them, this band can sell out any 60 000+ arena no problem, so its not about money. If some musicians want to stand on a soap box and get political its their choice. If Bono feels better about himself with trying to help another nation in need more power to him.
play guitar do ya?

I have to agree with most people on here. Whenever there's surplus money to spend everyone seems to have their hand out but I dont think celebrities (if that what you would call Bono) should use their star power to decide who is more deserving of what. Canada and other nations have sunk billions of dollars over the years into helping Africa only to see it skimmed into swiss bank accounts or funneled into the pockets of civil war milita. Instead of bad mouthing another country's leader, I think Bono should use his influence to work directly with African officals to clean up corruption and waste on their side before any further aid is sent.
