Karma.
Isn't it beautiful? Canada's political left is facing the same fate Canada's political right faced in 1993.
The Conservatives are going strong, and could go on with a string of majorities, if you have a Liberal Party in chaos, a surging NDP, and a nuisance with the Greens.
Do you left wingers on this forum, believe that the NDP and Liberals will ultimately need to unite?
wow our politics is getting more Americanized, lol...we could be a (outside of PQ) 2 party system.
As has been pointed out to me, the Liberals and NDP although both left leaning are very different parties.
The NDP is left wing, Liberals are center with their conservative fiscal policies and liberal social policies. I don't think these two could unite. The Liberals and Conservatives are far closer than the Liberals and NDP.
Dumb idea.
I'd have to agree with those above on the NDP and Liberal thing, the two parties are just too far apart for a merger. You might stand a chance with the Greens and Libs though with their current leadership but that may change as well down the road.
I find the Greens and Liberals share many of the same ideologies at heart but at the same time I find the Greens to be a bit more to the left in their policies where as the Liberals seem to be more left of centre.
Besides, there's really no need to unit the left with a Conservative government in power, they will all vote against anything the Conservative propose in the end anyways.
I'm working very hard to bring all progressives together to stop the Reform based Conservatives. http://www.progressivesfordion.ca is a site that I wrote and friends helped me create. I'm hoping to get a left of centre cooperative movement going during this election to stop a Harper majority and elect a leader that will be able to bring the most people to the table.---namely the very reasonable Stéphane Dion.
A hostile left/right division in Canada will damage our society and make us vulnerable to the mess that our American cousins have experienced. Our somewhat bland, safe and slow moving but fairminded way of being in the world has served us well. Yes, it feels good to take a strong, righteous stand on things that our education, indoctrination, and perhaps even genetics predispose us to feel passionately about... but... balanced self control is a more mature and safer idea at this dangerous period in Canada's history.
All Canadians need to feel that some of their ideas and concerns are being dealt with by their government. Alienating people isn't healthy and this is why Canada needs to stay slightly left/centre. It's been socially stable.
The extreme right goals of Harper's Conservatives will destroy Canada in very short order. Look south---that's what will happen here.
Let's try to focus on shared values and worries and work on our differences bit by bit without throwing Canada into a tailspin.[/color]
The Libs and the Greens could join.. oh, but they already have.
No wat the NDP and Libs would merge. jack's just too much of a grandstanding buffoon to share the stage with anyone.
The NDP gets the extreme vote and takes these people out of the decision making process. They are almost perfect in that regard. If you were to mention this to them they'd say "Damn right".
Like how nine NDP wangle $4 billion into a budget for average Canadians instead of in cuts for corporations?
Yeah us 'extremists' are so marginalized by the NDP.
Damn right
No, the "left" should not amalgamate. Amalgamation of parties is anti-democratic. It's good to be able to choose between multiple parties instead of having one centralised party that acts like a bull in a china shop.
who exactly would they be uniting? The liberal party isn't left, the green party has conservative financial policies. So who would the NDP be uniting with, the Canadian communist party? wow what a boost in votes lol. The reason people say this is because of the uniting of the right-wing parties in Canada but they actually had more than one party to unite. I still don't understand why the liberals didn't vote down them uniting when they had a chance, that was the stupidest thing they could have done.
But anyways you should have another option on that poll going "what left parties?"
