Polievre is an outstanding interrogator with a real talent for the snark required on such occasions. I’d like to see PMs subjected to this sort of examination more often.

I remember CBC falling all over themselves way back when about how proto-"woke" those Kielburger kids were with their huge charitable "we're doing it for the children!" hearts. Good to see it exploded in their faces, years after the fact, with another supposed charity being exposed as just another sleazy for-profit rip-off for those fortunate enough to be in the inner circle. Good for a laugh, even though it's much better that nearly a billion dollars didn't end up being handed over to that mess.

In complete agreement with all your comments, Thanos.

Two strikes too many.

I mean, who in the PMO thought this would be a good idea, and didn't tell the guy? How did he think it was a good idea for his wife, brother and mother to get paid by these guys, and not recuse himself from cabinet decision about them? And which part of the civil service says "we don't do that, find an outside entity to deliver those funds" and which part of the public did he think would buy that bullshit?

All very excellent questions, DrCaleb and every one in dire need of answer.

Scape Scape:
It’s a scandal that could—but probably won’t—take down Justin Trudeau. After swearing otherwise, WE was forced to admit that it paid Justin's mom and brother more than $350,000 in speaking fees. It's triggered an ethics inquiry and a call for a criminal investigation. And all because Canadaland produced the receipts.
Jaren Kerr, Canadaland’s former deputy editor, joins Jesse to discuss his 2018-19 investigation into WE Charity—reporting that set the groundwork for the scandal unfolding now. And Jesse talks about his own reporting, and how it spurred the latest developments in this fast-moving story.

Excellent read that, Scape. Especially the financial documents on the PDF.

Bill Morneau says he wrote a $41K cheque to WE today for expenses related to his family's trips with WE.
$1:
“I had expected & always had intended to pay the full cost of these trips… not doing so, even unknowingly, is not appropriate. I want to apologize for this error,” he said

Trudeau gov. contract for $912M student program was with WE Charity’s real estate holding foundation

Oh yeah, the thing about that check, it was written the day he was to appear before the committee. The flagrant arrogance of the man.

A good synopsis on the WE scandal....

It is inconceivable that not one single person in the entire liberal government was unable to uncover even half of the dirt that is now known about this so-called charity. A ten year old kid would have found a good portion of it after spending a few minutes on google.

Watched the entire debacle from start to finish. No surprises from the ever ethically challenged trudeau but that Telford - man she is some piece of work and the photo does her justice.

R=UP

I got a real kick out of the Bloc MP Fortin - talk about 'in your face'. He rocked the questioning of Telford...........Go Fortin hold those feet to the fire.

A small dog barking and snapping at the wind.
And I hope every student come next election remembers who fucked them out of their summer earnings to create the illusion of a scandal.

Thanos @ Fri Jul 31, 2020 11:15 pm

Or, hopefully, the students will understand instead that this entire thing went tits-up thanks to the Liberal instinct to turn whatever they can into another exercise in grandstanding and gladhanding. The govt could have done the program the honest way, through the already-existing structure of the civil service, instead of handing almost a billion unsupervised dollars over to the secular Osteen brothers for "management". Over 7000 additional unemployed Canadians could have received CERB support for the full six months from the $43 million the Kielburger creeps were going to score as their admin fee.

herbie @ Sat Aug 01, 2020 11:34 am

Or maybe Canadians will look into what actually IS a conflict of interest. Otherwise, the Tory party with no actual positive positions whatsoever will start ranting about how they bought the RCMP new Camaro pursuit cars and Trudeau's cousin had a Chevrolet station wagon back in 1965 so that's obviously corruption at work. and his Finance Minister's grandson works at Kal Tire and they sell umpteen tires that will fit Camaros!
Sophie did not get paid by WE while Justin was PM, what his mother and brother did or even do now for WE is totally irrelevant unless they're on WE's Board of Directors or worked on lobbying for the contract. The civil service made the suggestion aa the only option. He's going to be cleared.
Likewise Marneau's daughter unless she's a Board member or lobby for the contract.

HTG if I was PM would I be required to recluse myself for awarding a contract to Telus to expand rural Internet because my daughter works as an hourly worker in one of their big city call centers? Or because I get a union pension from one of their predecessor companies?

Regardless as Finance minister he did accept travel gifts and deserves to be censured. No sympathies if he's booted to back bencher.

My disrespects equally apply to Mr Singh and Mulcair for their tagging along like poodles on the fringes of a pack. You fucked the WE charity, you fucked the students to TRY to gain a c-hair of political support. One more chip in a decade of tiny reasons for me to mo longer support the NDP.

People forget, while this scandal is ongoing, students don't have jobs to pay for University next month.

People who take University, grow up to pay more taxes than if they don't.
