Apologies guys,

I'll just link to mapquest.com in the future.

The only reason Doug Christie is "aligned" with these groups you posted is because he was hired to defend them and their rights to free speech.

Streaker @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 5:06 pm

He also had the option of declining to represent them. It's a pretty long list of bigots he has represented, to which can be added the recently disgraced David Ahenakew.

Frankly, it reflects very poorly on Christie and totally discredits the WCC.

Maybe the SPA has fewer skeletons in its closet...

themasta @ Tue Aug 09, 2005 5:14 pm

Separation is a moot point because the provinces do not, constitutionally, have a leg to stand on. The only reason you have all these Albertans bitching about Ottawa and talking about separation is because of the high numbers of Yanks that have moved to Alberta. It is well known across Canada that Alberta is the most "American" province and with Ralph "Privatize My Own Grandmother" Klein it is no wonder that these people cannot stand to live in a Canada that might have a social conscience. This group of Americans fail to realize that provinces are not the same as states and therefore do not have the right to cede from the Confederacy (as Canada is a confederation). Therefore, any talk of separation stems from ignorance of both politics and law.

Yeah? I guess that'll just make 2 provinces for us to sent in troops and "eliminate" the separatists and put them all on a large boat and wave bye-bye.
Dont think you would have much luck running anyone in Alberta,we still have our guns.

Our grain fed gals would run you all back to your Tim Hortons and latte shops el pronto.
I dont know where they get the people for these surveys but even if Albertans are pissed at the east and the libs trying to rob us constantly most of us are too busy working to even have time to put any effort into a seperatist movement.Farmers on the other hand have time on their hands and it would benefit them most so thats what I think the majority of the people polled were is farmers. Most can live off the income they get from wellheads being on their land, some have 60 or more. I can say that the blue collar worker probably wasnt polled and the ones that were were'nt working.

You see in this fine country we call Canada you get penalized for working hard with allmost 50 % taxes off your cheque, but if you start a small bussiness you can write off everything including the wifes tampons and get a tax cheque in the mail for doing so. Lots of people do it and I dont agree with it.

What the hell, I'll quote the entire article about western separatist Doug Christie:

Doug Christie: Fascism Under Cover of Free Speech
David Lethbridge

Multiple Choice Question - Who said the following?

"Spiritual revitalization (requires) the manifestation of a heroic role model for the European male. The leader is always the source of such a model. The leader must always epitomize the ideal of the nation."

a) Benito Mussolini
b) Adolf Hitler
c) Doug Christie

Throughout September and October, Doug Christie held meetings of the Western Canada Concept and the Canadian Free Speech League. Many of these conferences were held in public libraries in Vancouver and Victoria, BC.; one was held in Alberta. Each of these events was actively protested by progressives, labor leaders, multicultural societies, anti-racist organizations and Communists. The response of the State was predictable, ranging from outright refusal to condemn such meetings, to active police repression of demonstrators. Media editorials packaged Christie's events as exercises in "free speech."

Is It Free Speech?

Doug Christie is a Victoria, BC, lawyer who claims to be merely an advocate of "free speech." But this is not true. Christie does much more than simply defend white supremacists, anti-Semites, and neo-Nazis. He shares their dangerous and despicable views. Indeed, as long ago as 1985, Vancouver broadcaster Gary Bannerman said of Christie's connection to hatemongers that, "Doug Christie has aligned himself so many times with these perverted monsters that he has to be viewed as one himself." Christie sued Bannerman for libel and lost, appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada, and lost again. And as recently as October 20, syndicated columnist Hubert Beyer, who has known Christie for 25 years, noted that he "identifies with his clients views which include a lot of anti-Semitism." (1)

The Clients

The list of far-right extremists defended by Christie is long and telling and includes:

-Ernst Zundel, one of the largest suppliers of pro-Nazi literature in the world.

-Terry Long, former leader of Aryan Nations, Canada.

-James Keegstra, anti-Semitic and white racist schoolteacher.

-Malcolm Ross, anti-Semitic and Holocaust-denying schoolteacher.

-Bill Harcus, Joe Lockhart, and Theron Skyrba, leaders of the Ku Klux Klan in Manitoba.

-Rudy Stanko, one of the leaders of the violent white supremacist organization, the Church of the Creator.

-Tony McAleer and the Canadian Liberty Net, a phone service providing white racist, Holocaust-denial, and anti-homosexual hate messages.

-John Ross Taylor, leading Canadian "ambassador"of the neo-Nazi Aryan Nations.

-Imre Finta, accused war criminal and Nazi collaborator.

-Murray Gauvreau, distributor of militia and racist tapes and books.

-Doug Collins, white racist and anti-Jewish newspaper columnist.

-Wes Mann, founder of the Preferred Network who distributed anti-Semitic hate propaganda and publicizes tours by David Icke.

-Paul Fromm, anti-immigrant and neo-fascist propagandist.

-Eileen Pressler, leader of the anti-Semitic Council on Public Affairs.

-Lady Jane Birdwood, a British aristocrat and one time follower of British fascist leader Oswald Mosley, a dedicated fascist in her own right, and a convicted peddler of hate propaganda. (2)

The Botting Letters

Gary Botting trained to be a lawyer under Doug Christie. He knew Christie very well and was professionally intimate with him for many years. But on 19 April 1996, Botting wrote a letter to Christie which he subsequently made public. This letter said in part: "it is clear to me that your Canadian Free Speech League is merely a front for an anti-Semitic, pro-Nazi agenda. ... In the Canadian Free Speech League, the only opinions truly allowed are those which conform to your own. And those opinions, as you know well, are anti-Semitic and almost blatantly pro-Nazi. It is no coincidence that both you and Ernst Zundel usually celebrate your birthdays on April 20, Adolf Hitler's Birthday."(3)

A Classified Ad

One of Christie's organizations, the Canadian Free Speech League, shared an Internet website with such well known neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups as the Heritage Front, the Canadian Patriots Network, and the Euro-Christian Defence League. The Heritage Front is run by convicted neo-Nazi, Wolfgang Droege, and is intimately connected to Holocaust-denier Ernst Zundel, Klansman David Duke, and the White Aryan Resistance. The Euro-Christian Defence League is run by ex-Klansman, Joe Lockhart.(4)

Christie has maintained, somewhat hypocritically, that he is not responsible for the organizations with which he is electronically linked. However, as of December 1996, an advertisement for Christie's Western Canada Concept appeared in the electronic classified ads of a Missouri-based openly neo-Nazi website run by Dennis Nix, formerly of the White Nationalist Party. Such an ad must have been deliberately and consciously placed and paid for by Christie or his group; indeed the advertising rates appear on the same page. This Missouri website contains material from the American Nazi Party, the neo-Nazi National Alliance, and a number of other Nazi-oriented organizations.(5)

Denial of the Holocaust

According to the Vancouver Sun newspaper, 6 July 1992, "Christie has argued in court for the existence of an 'international Zionist conspiracy'" and that he "personally doubts the 'gas chamber story' that is the Holocaust." Indeed, Christie wrote in 1994, on his Western Canada Concept internet website: "We demonize Hitler. We motivate millions to believe that the fratricidal war was justified by the Holocause. ... We make a compulsory state religion, the great holocause museum, where children learn to hate their ancestors." Could it be more clear? (6)

In Australia

In October, 1991, Christie was an invited guest speaker at a series of meetings sponsored by the Australian League of Rights. The League is well known as a racist and anti-Semitic organization and distributor of hate propaganda. Its leader, Eric Butler, has written anti-Jewish hate propaganda including "The International Jew." At these meetings and on subsequent radio interviews, Christie suggested that the murder of six million Jews by the Nazis could not be considered murder since the concept of "crimes against humanity came after the war, at Nuremburg," and claimed that there was an "International Zionist conspiracy" to impose a "reign of terror," on those who deny the Holocaust, and that war crimes legislation was introduced in Canada and Australia simply to satisfy "the desires and objectives of Zionist groups." Christie's audience included skinheads wearing swastika emblazoned T-shirts.(7)

Canadian Free Speech League

Doug Christie is the "general counsel" of the Canadian Free Speech League, and one of four of its directors. The League was formed in 1985 to raise money to fund the legal defence of anti-Semites Ernst Zundel and James Keegstra. According to the "Hansard," the official government record of the proceedings of the parliament of British Columbia, at a 1991 meeting of the Canadian Free Speech League, the BC Grand Titan of the Ku Klux Klan met with the publisher of "Insight," a neo-Nazi publication which has glorified Adolf Hitler and claimed the Holocaust was a hoax.(8 ) A 1993 meeting of the League was guarded by skinhead thugs.(9) At a 1996 gathering of the Canadian Free Speech League, several noted racists and anti-Semites were in attendance, including Tony McAleer, a frequent participant at neo-Nazi gatherings at the Aryan Nations headquarters in Idaho; Ron Gostick, head of the anti-Semitic Canadian League of Rights; and Eileen Pressler, who has sponsored meetings by major international anti-Semites and white supremacists. (10) The CFSL regularly presents its "George Orwell" award to notable far-right extremists.

C.A.U.S.E.

C.A.U.S.E. is a US-based international group of white supremacist and fascist lawyers headed by Kirk Lyons, who himself is the lawyer for most prominent neo-Nazis in the USA, including the murderous Aryan Nations and the Posse Comitatus. Lyons refers to Christie as a CAUSE "associate."(11) In a telephone conversation, Lyons said that he had "worked with" and "cooperated with" Christie, and that he considered that Christie was an "affiliate."(12)

Leadership 92

In May 1992, Doug Christie was an invited speaker at the "Leadership 92 Conference and Awards Banquet," sponsored by the Council on Public Affairs. It should be noted that this was not a "free speech" conference, but one apparently devoted to leadership. Who were these "leaders," and who were honored at the "awards" banquet? Anti-Semitic teachers James Keegstra and Malcolm Ross were the special guests at the awards banquet, while the speakers list included Doug Christie; David Irving, a Holocaust-denial and pro-Hitler apologist banned from entry into Canada; Eustace Mullins, characterized as among the "most vile anti-Semites on the face of the planet"; Jud Cyllorn, a west coast white supremacist; Paul Cameron, an anti-homosexual bigot and activist; Fred Leuchter, author of a Holocaust-denial book; and several other similar white racists and anti-Semites.(13)

Western Canada Concept: An Analysis

Doug Christie is the founder and leader of the Western Canada Concept, a political party whose declared intent is the break up of Canada and the establishment of a separate nation in western Canada. The ideology of the WCC manifests the distinct racist and fascist views of the clients Christie serves. Human Rights Commissions would be dissolved, the young would be forced to serve in the military, and a woman's right to terminate an unwanted pregnancy would become a criminal offence. Section 5 of the "Principles and Goals of the Western Canada Concept" - "Culture" - states that all non-European, non-white immigration would be curtailed. Section 9 - "Immigration" - maintains that "third-world" immigration would be stopped to prevent Canada becoming "degenerate." These are the typical themes of white supremacy and fascism: the rights of non-whites, women, and youth, are to be severely curtailed in a whites-only, Christian-only, state.(14) Further, in 1998, a WCC meeting employed Carl Klang, known for his concerts at racist and right-wing militia gatherings, to provide entertainment. The Western Canada Concept website contains a section of suggested readings. Included in the January 1999 list is Doug Collins "Here We Go Again," a book filled with racist and antisemitic content.

Terry Long and Aryan Nations

Terry Long is the former head of Aryan Nations in Canada. Aryan Nations is a neo-Nazi organization which glorifies Hitler, and whose members have been arrested for murder, armed robbery, fraud, and sedition. Aryan Nations members believe that non-whites are less than human, and the Jews are descended from Satan. Terry Long was a candidate for Doug Christie's Western Canada Concept in the 1980s.(15) Christie's relationship to Long is not over. In August 1996, Christie was acting as Terry Long's lawyer in a threatened libel action against a newspaper in Creston, BC.

What The Discipline Committee of the Law Society of Upper Canada Said

In February 1993, the Law Society of Upper Canada launched an investigation into Christie's conduct at the Imre Finta war crimes trial, and in remarks he made at a speech outside the court. Christie said that Jewish children had come to the trial to seek vengeance, or for theatre or entertainment. "Mr. Christie has revealed himself most tellingly here in these comments about Jewish children," justice Harvey T. Strosberg wrote. "It has been said that in the depths of his imagery no man lies. We know who Mr. Christie is. In the depths of his imagery he has not lied." After 38 pages of detail, Strosberg and the Committee ruled that Christie had "crossed the line separating counsel from client: he has made common cause" with "the anti-Semitic element in our society."(16)

Yes, we know who Mr. Christie is. Indeed, we do.

He also had the option of declining to represent them.

Then it would show he had ties or was biased.
He's a good lawyer that knows his law,he didnt write them.(laws)He just interperts them(laws). If he was guilty of some hate crimes or affiliated with some group that existed only to target a minority, rest assured he would have been charged long ago.
What do you have against free speech?
And I think D. Christie is from Calgary originally but I could be wrong.
The WCC concept has been dead for years also. Guess you missed the funeral.

I lived and worked in the UK & Austraila. Our taxes are less then theirs. I don't pay 50% tax and I make good money. While we may not have the write-offs that the US has we have some very lucrative tax incentives such as contributing to a RRSP to bring down total tax payable while saving for retirement. We have a very high standard of living in Canada yet people still complain.

6 In the same WCC website article, Christie makes explicit his approval of the fascist "leadership principle." "Once again I come to the realization, only in Independence is there any real hope for the spiritual revitalization of our people and the manifestation of a heroic role model for the European male. The leader is always the source of such a model. The leader must always epitomize the ideal of the nation." WCC, December 1994, http://FTCNET.com/-WCC

And taxes are about 44% for the blue collar worker straight off the cheque.
Maybe you dont make enough to get into that bracket but it will come.
When it gets over 50% then I'm working for the government and that's communism and then ya,I'll join a seperatist movement.

If he did this.

As a lawyer he knew that his clients were entitled to a zealous defence and were presumed innocent. As a would-be political leader, however, he should have known that the optics of representing these people would reflect badly on him as well as the western separatist movement.

Does Christie lack political judgement?... Would he knowingly commit political suicide?... Is he a bald-faced bigot?...

Strictly speaking, the WCC is not dead, although it never had much of a life to begin with:

BooHoo, the liberals are robbing us

I really don't think this needs a reply when a Liberal admits it.

They don't even defend it now.
