Why some people don't train

I've gone to school for two undergraduate degrees and a graduate degree(plus the training I received in the military). I went where the jobs were(over a large part of the world) and took more training when I felt I needed to better my chances.
Well if you can do it, anybody should be able to.
And you're educational background is......?
he has a BSc in BS, and then he obtained an MSc in Food Sciences where he presented a thesis that dealt with using microwave energy sources to increase thermal reactions within cryogenically preserved carbohydrates, as opposed to conventional convection sources
Brenda Brenda:
Why would anyone invest more than they will ever get out of it, or than they will ever be able to pay off?
You see education as a waste of money?

I didn't say that.
I see employers wanting their employees to have a university degree for a low-wage paying job as bullshit.
If you put a lot of effort and a lot of money in your education, you might expect to be paid accordingly.
I don't think you should "need" a MBA to only be paid a living wage. That is what you get atm tho.
I've yet to meet an MBA who is only making a living wage. You need to reserch the job market to find out what is in demand. I loved History and Geography, but realized that I wouldn't get much of a job with only a BA in History with a Geography minor. This is why I coupled my BA with a BEd, because teachers were in demand and made better money. it was also during this time that I went to one of the worst places on earth to work and earn money and experience. It was directly reponsible for my next career change, and an increase in my education/knowledge and income.

You have a story of achievement there Shep, but hows the wife and kids. Did they fit into your plans okay - or is it just about you.

Exactly.
"Oh, if you don't like where you are, if you can't find the job you want, just pack up and leave!"
Sure, if you are alone, no biggie.

Not sure how it's relevant, but very similar to Shep's except for the army part.

"people should have moved"
I'm pretty sure they did, all that's left to hire where I live are the dregs...
- they don't WANT to work. they're lazy
- they're untrainable (simply WON'T listen to instruction), teachers are all stupid mentalities.
- they get paid by the Band to go to school. No intentions of ever doing something with the training.
- they're fucked up on drugs, therefore feel fully qualified to earn $60K a year as a drug counsellor and any job that pays less is 'bullshit'
- they know how to use Facebook (as long as they can find an 8 yr old to walk them through the incredibly difficult registration process first). Therefore they have computer skills.
- they're actually too stupid to qualify as homo sapiens. Can't read or write. Can't figure out how to use a bank instead of Money Mart. Need help to get a SIN number so you can hire them.

I've worked in some small factories and warehouses and some of the people you meet are pretty limited. There's problems at the bottom, I don't know what the percentage would be. I have this one co-worker that told me development is polluting the atmosphere - only he explained "on Mars". I meant exactly what I wrote. I prefer not to talk to the guy.

Well, Herbie, according to some here, you shouldn't stay where you are, but move to where the "smart" people are!

Yep, but they're probably too smart to work for min wage.
Shep called min wage workers Epsilons from Brave New World. I think he sees that book as a utopia.

It's relevant in that you opened the door by taking a shot at his. And you have 2 undergraduate degrees and a graduate one? Really?

Not quite Brenda. You move where you have the best opportunities are or you take the $13 an hour jobs. The choice is yours.

An or a business who can't find the employees he needs? What do you suggest they do?
Btw, the choice is mine if I was alone.

My wife is a director in the city's English education program, both kids are fluent in Mandarin, my youngest is only in Grade 2 so he's still here with us, while our eldest went to Junior high in Canada and only has two years of highschool left. Anyone with a family knows it's no longer just about them and that plans are made together with your spouse. I thought that was a simple concept, or are you single?
