Why was Trudeau and Chretien so hated and disliked in Quebec
Why were they disliked? They seemed to stand up for Canada in Quebec and they get bashed for it. Yet when a referendum was held, the majority of them stayed in Canada.
Can someone tell me what exactly is going on? Why are they so unpopular in Quebec?
because they were fucking assholes!
Compared to the opinion in Alberta, they were considered Saints.
screw em both.
all they saw the west for was raping and pillaging.
anyone remember the energy plan?
Sort of funny for someone who is Canadian to ask such an obvious question. How long have you been canadian, IamaCanadian?
probably for the same reason they were hated in the west
They were particularly hated in Quebec because they were Quebeckers who favoured centralization -- something Quebec has always resisted.
They were not liked because they stood up for the Country as a Nation.
They told the separatist ass holes where to go. and that is it in a nut shell. They were and are Federalists.. plain and simple... and that my friends took balls !

why were they disliked in quebec ?
well they weren't origianlly , both ahd success at first and won many seats it wasn't until later that they suddenly were disliked .
the dislike for whatever reasons started after they were in power , so it likely has something to do with whatever they were up to in ottawa at time .
maybe sponsorship scandal could count as a reason ? for chretien

Hear! Hear!
Well...who says they're hated? Secondly, i'd wager that many Quebec separatists don't like Trudeau likely due to the fact that he whipped their ass politically and turned separatism into what it really is, xenophobic nationalism.
I propose this is evidence that Quebecers are smarter than they look.

Hey now, don't put us all in the same basket. Not that there aren't any xenophobic separatists, but there are more than that.
But to get back to the point :
Well, nothing proves beyond doubt that Trudeau or Chrétien are hated in Quebec, but one could say it's a safe assumption...
Patrick_Ross rose an excellent point by mentionning dislike of centralization. It's fairly obvious all separatists can only be against centralization of power in Ottawa, but a large chunk, if not the majority, of federalists also prone a reformed, decentralized federalism (especially nowadays, but probably as far back as Trudeau's days as well). That would make sense as it'd not only explain the bad reputation of Trudeau and Chrétien (as well as other "old-school" federalists like Stéphane Dion, who was unpopular even years before he became chief of the Libs... before he was minister of environment, in fact), but also why the current-day Cons and Stephen Harper are pretty well seen in Quebec : they work towards decentralization, albeit slowly, and do all they can to avoid being seen as a government centered around its own power.
All the allegations surrounding Chrétien also certainly didn't help his case. Then some could argue there's just something with their personality as well.
To be honest though, I haven't seen anything of the Trudeau era, so I can't really bring much forward when it comes to him.

Ok, fair enough, but Trudeau's central argument regarding nationalism was its inherent bigotry and xenophobia. I will grant you that not all separatists embody these characteristics though
