Would Ignatieff have done better if he was elected instead of Dion at the Liberal Convention in terms of overall support and leading the liberal party?

Honestly, I don't think our party has anyone left who is capable of winning a majority until Justin enters. Image is everything and none of our people have that.

He would have been worse.

He has no experience.

All that Justin has is a name, I hope Canadians aren't stupid enough to vote for him because of that.

I will move to Somialia if Justin Trudeau ever runs this country....

It's hard to say. The press likely would have given him a bit of an easier ride. He was working out of the country for 30 years though, and he's open to questioning because of his stance on torture, former support for the war in Iraq etc.

He would have appealed more to centre-right voters though, and likely could have capitalized on some of Harper's mistakes better than Dion could have.

I don't think Dion is doing as badly as he's being portrayed as doing though. Most pundits, especially Conservative ones, were predicting the demise of the Liberal Party. It hasn't happened. Most were predicting and some trying to foment a full-scale rebellion within the Liberal Party. It hasn't happened. Most were predicting that Harper would be solidly in majority territory in the polls. It hasn't happened.

There's two ways to look at that...either Dion is doing okay, though not great; or Harper is a huge boob who is so incompetent that he's blown the biggest opportunity he's ever going to get. The truth likely lay someplace in between.

Would that be different if Iggy had won the leadership? Likely not.

There are no leaders in the Liberal Party and there hasn't been for a number of years.

The Greens seem to be in turmoil

Perhaps this has something to do with their overly cozy relationship with Dion?

The latest national political party poll has the following results:

CPC 37%
Liberals 28%
NDP 18%
Green 11%
PQ 7%

It's a laugh that Dion, the environmental Liberal, has not cut into the Green poll. It's to laugh.

true in the sense he has never been elected to public office before as an MLA or as an MP or even as a municipal councilor .
until he has actually held an elected position in government.

he has alot to do before he can really claim to be PM material.

Oh God no, please don't give us another surge of "Trudeau-Mania"

I think Iggy would have done better.

He was more of a centrist.

question how did over 170 people /user vote in the poll ? that seems too high , that many never vote in these polls .

is someone playing games ? sure the liberals suck but .

I'm sorry, I got so upset I started to stutter.

Iggy would have done better, but he's got a wardrobe fill of skelatons and he's almost un-electable. How could the Libs play an American style torture monger as a lib.
Iggy would have done better simply because Dion is such a lame duck.

I think Iggy would have been the better choice, for the simple reason he does not carry the baggage of being part of the Chretien/Martin govts.

So far Dion is all for the enviroment, which the governments he was a part of never felt the need to do anything about. He is also about putting our tail between our legs and running away scared from Afghanistan, after being a minister in the govt that sent the troops there (mainly so that Jean could tell George we were too strapped for people to help out in Iraq) and a part of the govt that moved our folks into a much more active combat role.

The language problem is an issue as well. I hope for his sake that Dion's handlers have in class, at least for enunciation. In the navy we say guys like him speak Fringlish.
