"Rat Rodders" and Rat Rods are trying to recapture the hot rod era of the 1940's, 50's & early 1960's where young males and backyard mechanics created their dream rides out of whatever they had available... a lat head V8, '27 Ford T body, 31 Dodge grille, 35 International pickup bed, etc...
Hope that helps...
Cheers

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, flat head V8. Almost as good as a flat headed woman.
Love the 55 Nomad. The only Chev of that era I could stomach. A hundred percent classier than the fan fave overchromed beast from 1957.

Neat video... too bad some of these vintage iron got damaged in making of the movie...
I thought all (or most) of the cars which were actually damaged were knock offs (or mostly knock offs), including the Grand National? They mentioned in the movie posted by stemmer that no real GNX's were wrecked.
The ones they wreck are the entry level cars (T types, Satellites and the like). They happen to be the ones the average Joe can afford and when they get wrecked for what'll likely be yet another forgettable movie it's a shame. There aren't all that many 73 Camaros left in that condition and they wrecked three of them.
Gah. Hating Barrett-Jackson again...
"I saw a 76 Maverick go on Barrett-Jackson for 56 grand, so I think I can get an easy 15k for it."
"Dude, yours is a 4 door thats been sitting in weeds for 30 years and is completely rotten..."
"Yeah, but it's a Maverick!"
Great entertainment for the new generation but only fiction.
A real car guy today or even in the era would not treat his sled that way.
Also, the cars featured were those at the end of the era.
Was sixteen in mid fifties when fast cars and drag racing were in there hayday.
(Began out west in the 30's if we are recalling correctly.)
But, aside from a gear changer (drag) we would never treat iron in this way.
Just not done.
Owned a 1967 small block 350 pacecar series Camero vert. Purchased it from a corn field without a set of wheels to its name. Came home on a flatbed.
Had it nearly restored when son needed college tuition and young fella offered a handful of money for her.
Young fella finished my work. Later that year a nice little ole lady T-Boned it and that was the end of that.
1967 Indy pacecar Camero.
