Ya, but modern history isn't really "Empires" it would be like... Age of Lies or Age of Imformation or somthing like that.

OOOOOO!!! I think I see where you get your "DARK CANUCK" name from.... a cynic, in our midst! yikes.

The original Empire Earth and EE 2 (fairly new with wicked graphics) take you from caveman to the space age. I even created a custom civilisation . "the Canadians" I made them extra strong in food production and resource production. Just like us lol. I can stomp the AI set to "Americans" with em.
These games are the closest in feel to AoE and if you like that genre of game I can recommend them as being worth playing. Unlike so many other pale imitations of AoE. If you want to use modern political maneuvering try Civilizations 3. You can win by making alliances and then burning them to their enemies in return for something. Repeat the process as needed. Now that sounds modern, doesn't it?

I paied 75 bucks for EE 2 and it didn't work on my computer. I couldn't even return it. What a jip.

Civ III is an awesome game, I was addicted until my dog ate the cd...

If you like warfare and tactics and large-scalle, hyper-realistic battles Rome:Total War is the way to go.

I lost track of the current Age of Empires, what is it up to now? If people are willing, I would like to challenge them and teach them a thing or two about a thing or two.....

No offense but you must have a very shitty computer for AoEII not to run on your CPU...

EE is a near-rip-off of AoE that spans a much wider period in time and the only really, REALLY fun part of EE was the ariel dog fighting in WWI and II compaings. I bought EEII because I thought the EE franchise was due... it wasn't.

Yah well, I outgrown RTS games when StarCraft was obsolite. AOE is out. Rome, total war.. is In.
