I've been using NOD32 from Eset, and I've been impressed so far. The interface is not for the computer illiterate though. It even scans for some forms of spyware...I give it a two thumbs up.
Very low memory usage; you can read the rest
here.Same here, best anti-virus out there as far as I'm concerned. One note though, their new security suite is much more user friendly than the Nod32 antivirus one I purchased just a few months back (I think it was in November or December) so I would recommend going with that one.
I forgot to mention that the "Smart Security" suite also includes a firewall and antispam in addition to the antivirus and spyware protection.

if you don't mind tweaking things, and not every program working exactly as it would in a native windows environment, then i would suggest using linux! i've been virus free since i switched!

LOL those are so old dude. If you use a modern linux distro with automatic update you really need not to worry!. Those virus have all been patch a long time ago.
So a new machine with all the latest updates, wait theres some other company that does that, oh crap whats the name I cant put my finger on it, umm, mikerowesoft or something
. yes im a smart ass
.
I play with linux somewhat but have found it just dosent do what i want it to as easily as I want, but again Im not a power user

well maybe you should get yourself a MAC lol
I sold PC with Linux to total computer newby because winXP is too complicatated for them. You know all those antivirus spyware etc.... + the update from Microsoft. Well I guess you could ask someone to intall it for you. It would be safer that way .... or just get a MAC.
herbie @ Thu Jul 03, 2008 9:16 pm
Linux is disgustingly user friendly these days. Can't think of one thing where Vista or XP is "easier". Ditto for Mac.
emart @ Thu Jul 03, 2008 10:37 pm
yeah, as long as you have the most up to date kernel, and scarcely log in to root except when necessary, there's little that can go wrong. but, if/as it grows in popularity, things will change. but for now i can get all the porn i want and have little fear of any malfunctions.

Lol let me clarify. I am more then versed in all and everything windoze. I am highly technical and can/have installed many *nix boxes. Wouldnt touch a mac with a ten foot poll unless I needed video editing and such. lol

You have got to be kidding me. The only thing wrong with vista are the people who dont know how to use it. For us of those that do its far superior to any version of Windoze, except maybe ME hahahaha
herbie @ Fri Jul 04, 2008 6:57 pm
Haha yourself. The whole Vista gripefest reminds me exactly of the whining over ME.
The only thing really wrong with Vista is the number of consumers who suddenly had a brain fart. They cruised along on a P4 2.8 with XP and suddenly expect that $399 Vista Basic special with a Celeron & Intel onboard graphics should impress them.
So here's a challenge: setup an XP computer on a router with a shared printer. Then buy 2 identical barebones boxes and set one up with Vista, one with Ubuntu. Stop timing yourself when you've opened a .xls file, a pdf, and printed a test page and pulled up a web page. Then tell me Ubuntu wasn't easier.
Hell toss in log yourself into msn.com and yahoo.com and resize a png file too!
