I have been searcing for the best, preferably free, ant-virus software for sometime. One of the big requirments is that its low on resources not bloaty.
I think I just found the best one, im really liking it so far, and its free!
its called Avast
Avast Website
I have also tried:
Norton 2004
Mcafee
AVG
Trend Micro PC Chillin
I agree 100.
Avast Is the best Free anti virus program. AVG seems to be always having problems with their update servers. Avast is trouble free. I used to have NAV '03, but when it came time to renew, I gave Avast a try. It is just as good as NAV, and totally free. Give it a try.
I have tried both Norton and McAfee at home. I, and others I've spoken with have had many problems with Norton conflicting with other programs and being hard to remove without doing a format. McAfee has always seemed to work fine. I put AVG on a machine I did for a charity once and it worked fine. Other than that, I cannot say.
avast was alright for a free product, but it was starting to both me.
I am now using Norton Corporate edition, it rocks. It uses way less resources than normal norton nd is small and not bloaty.
It "costs" a lot if you "actually" buy it though
a little trick for extending norton av, when the year is up, uninstall it, then reinstall it, but tiwht a different name in the registration bax, this will give you another year free.
Does anyone know how to write programs, I want to learn so I can write a "Clock Changer" program. It could not let your computer leave a certain day of the month. That way 7 day trials last forever!
i use the house call from pc chillin
never heard of the one you reccomend though....i'm gonna have to check it out.
Im using AVG ...ITS CRAAAAAAAAP!...im gonna try your avat...hope its good.
Well microsoft finally attempts to monopolize the anti spyware market by buying Giant anti virus company, might have to give it a try.
get it here
I find AVG runs flawlessly. There was some issues with updates but I fixed that by changing a few network and proxy settings. It also found 6 virus and 2 trojans that Norton didnt.
Norton 2002-Damn hard to uninstall, you need the disc and then it trys and re-installs,m.soft says click yes anyways,it's a norton glitch.
Norton 2004-Wouldnt install untill 2002 was uninstalled.
While those two were fighting it out I got hammered hard(not the alcohol version either). It was'nt pretty
Еру ифыефквы!
Neat little program.
try Regsupreme also....great registry cleaner.
If you have limited resources, put a virus scanner on a floppy and run it once a week. Don't let a big program like Norton's or McAfee take over your system, because they will. You need your computer for other things.
The best alternative is to use Linux.
thanks for the avast tip.......had it for almost 3 weeks now and not a freaking problem!...much better than avg which always showed the same viruses every time i scaned even though i would remove them....avg IS NOT SCOTTISH! lol
Easiest thing to do is get rid of windows and run Linux. There are alot less bug problems with Linux and if you want you can run a dual boot system and run both. Doing it that way will at least keep your computer running while you are trying to figure out what killed windows again.
There are programs to let you run windows programs thru Linux as well.
I've been doing some research on some AV programs and have found that NOD32 (nod32.com) is hands down one of the best. I am pretty surprised that it has not seen as much "spotlight" time as other AV programs, it definitely deserves it. NOD32 is also great on system memory, so it never slows down your computer.
There is a 30 day trial that is available on the website. I'd suggest those of you looking for a good AV try it out.
Here's the page will all the features: http://nod32.com/products/nt.htm
