I have yet to find a respectable website that doesn't work with firefox.
And I'm running Linux !

You cant get windows updates with firefox.
firefox incompatibility

$1:
The biggest reason why most people can't dump IE, however, is Microsoft itself: The software giant's Windows Update site blocks out non-IE browsers completely. That means anyone running Windows who wants to download and install the latest security updates from the Web will have to keep IE close at hand. Some consider that ironic or worse, given that authoritative groups such as Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Emergency Response Team now warn people to stay away from IE because of its myriad security problems.

Err so. Keep IE but only use Firefox.

Are the Browser Wars Back?
How Mozilla's Firefox trumps Internet Explorer.
By Paul Boutin

I usually don't worry about PC viruses, but last week's Scob attack snapped me awake. The clever multi-stage assault, carried out by alleged Russian spam crime lords, infiltrated corporate Web servers and then used them to infect home computers. The software that Scob (also known as Download.ject) attempted to install on its victims' machines included a keystroke logger.

In less than a day, Internet administrators sterilized the infection by shutting down the Russian server that hosted the spyware. But not before a barrage of scary reports had circled the world. "Users are being told to avoid using Internet Explorer until Microsoft patches a serious security hole," the BBC warned. (Disclosure: Microsoft owns Slate.) CNET reporter Robert Lemos zeroed in on why the attack was so scary. "This time," he wrote, "the flaws affect every user of Internet Explorer." That's about 95 percent of all Net users. No matter how well they had protected themselves against viruses, spyware, and everything else in the past, they were still vulnerable to yet another flaw in Microsoft's browser.

Scob didn't get me, but it was enough to make me ditch Explorer in favor of the much less vulnerable Firefox browser. Firefox is built and distributed free by the Mozilla Organization, a small nonprofit corporation spun off last year from the fast-fading remnants of Netscape, which was absorbed by AOL in 1999. Firefox development and testing are mostly done by about a dozen Mozilla employees, plus a few dozen others at companies like IBM, Sun, and Red Hat. I've been using it for a week now, and I've all but forgotten about Explorer.

Yeah I know. You can remove the IE icons but not remove it since it's part of the OS.

Well most people are ignorant about browsers and only use whats on their desktop. Of course, Im just saying I prefer Firefox after some screwups on IEs part but thats just me.

Firefox wont do any automatic updates from M.soft so which browser is really more secure unless you do the updates manually?

Proculation @ Mon Jun 13, 2005 7:09 pm

WinXP is configured to get the updates automatically anyway.
They popup a little bubble down your screen saying: NEW UPDATES AVAILABLE !!!!!

What are you talking about? Automatic updates will still work. That little globe on the bottom of your screen will still dl the updates. Besides, most of the insecurites come from websites which IE lacks in security features.

I usually run IE so dont know if the updates still work with firefox. I have it but dont use it(firefox)

Guess if it doesn't need a browser then ok,I thought you did.

No, like I said, IE is part of the OS. You can't remove it. You can just avoid it.
In the background, IE is always running (explorer).

I suppose the auto updates will work but I know for sure you cannot update Windows manually with Firefox.

Thanks for the link ziggy/Lily!! I wasn't aware of that one. I found the one I linked with Google doing a search for a problem I was having & they made me aware of "Hijack This" & help me out in 24 hrs.

I'll try that other one next time. R=UP

I thought explorer and IE were 2 different programs.
I know you cant get rid of explorer but thought you could get rid of IE.
