First time posting on this particular forum.
I am looking for 2 items:
1)Laptop-Just need it to play the odd game, surf the net, Emails and to run a camera-to send and receive videos & lastly to watch videos (DVD's). Not looking to build a Nuke but something that won't crap out on me in 6months. Not sure what components I need to be comparing or what price range I should look for. I am thinking a 15" screen would be good.
2) Something to do all of the above- while on travel. I can not afford all the gadgets ie: MP3, Portable DVD, IPOD Videos etc etc.
Is there anything out there that is handheld that does all of this? Costs?
I do have time before I require these items so I can shop around for prices.
Not really into sending someone, through Ebay, loads of cash but if someone has done this then plse let me know.
Don't want the Blackberry either as the handheld item is just for my entertainment without having to take a Laptop all the time. Is there a Handheld item that can surf the net too??
Thanks in advance.
Dan
Walmart. They caught the Dell. Saw pallets of the the things a couple months ago at $600 a pop.
Will check it out. Does it do all the things I need (want) it to do??
For LapTop,
Something like this would be good for what you are going to use it for:

And, For a handheld,
I would suggest a http://www.cellphones.ca/cell-phones/motorola-krzr-k1m/, Krzr.
Whoops- forgot to add NO Cell phones. I have those already for both work and home and they are enough for what I need. Sorry.
Thanks for the list of "stuff" on what I should be looking for.
Both links don't work for me though. I have written the products down though.
You'll need more RAM than 1 GB. A decent video card as well.
Must be somewhere I can get a decent Laptop.
I keep hearing $$$.
Well if you are not made of money like most of us mortal you should really take a closer look at an Eeepc from asus.
It does have some limitation but it should be able to do enough without breaking the bank
Eeepc at Pc village
What's your budget? Once you determine how much you can spend on a laptop then you can narrow your search. I am not a computer expert by any stretch of the imagination so this is only a suggestion. I picked up a Toshiba A-200 at Futureshop for about $800.00 on sale. It seems to have the capabilities you're looking for.Although it comes with Vista, it can be changed over to XP. (Vista is crap)!
Well, I was thinking $1000 for both items. My better half has other ideas on that one though.
Apparently they are having some sales on last years stock at Futureshop next month so I might be able to find something there then.
Appreciate all the help.
What limitations for the Asus ?? Prices looked good but maybe the hardware needs upgrading a bit??
I paid about $1700 for my Compaq 2 years ago and I see the same one in walmart for $500.00 the other day.
5 in one card reader, dvd,it even burns pics on cd's (lightscribe).
One more thing about my compaq presario,it's tough. It's been to the arctic circle at least a dozen times, been frozen solid at -45 for 10 hours straight a few times.Been pounded and stomped on in hundreds of airports, dropped on the floor from a broken case latch, beaten on a kamitak for hundreds of miles....and it keeps on going.
Nothing wrong with acers but after the third trip up north, they usually get put on a blast pattern and blowed up real good.
Checked them out at Walmart and there are 3 models that they sell that are fairly close to what I am looking for. Only 1 had the dedicated game card so I will have to decide if that is really a funtion I require.
Thanks for everyones assistance in this one.
