Very first thing you do is install Firefox or Google Chrome as an alternate browser, so you have a choice. IE is disgusting how it sits there idling for next to forever before anything appears.
Win7 is also not Speedy Gonzales when it comes to connecting to new networks or changed networks. I got so sick of that spinning blue circle for ten minutes before you could do anything and put our work laptops back to XP.
I have 3 computers in the house. The one on XP is the most reliable. Yet 10 years old or something
Sorry to disagree, but XP was shit.
Between it and Vista, they sold more Macs than Steve Jobs did. And 98? Come one it couldn't find the drivers on it's own disk with a fucking flashlight.
Win7 is 1,000 times better. But not at ease of changing networks and running ancient software. Wait until you get Windows 8 if you want to bitch. Add a 27" touchscreen and you can be the first case of carpal tunnel shoulder....
(back to 3 clicks just to shut down)
I know what you mean about Windows 8. I tried a beta version at a friend's house and almost made me buy a Mac. But in my own experience, 98 was the most stable and best OS.
Hey gang, I need some more help.
Every so often with my new PC recently, my internet connection just drops and I can't get a connection so save my life. So here's the rundown:
My modem is connected to my ISP and all is well there.
My computer is telling me that I am connected, despite all evidence to the contrary.
The software I have from my ISP which monitors and regulates my internet connection either a)says everything is ok when it's not or b) refuses to open
I've called the tech support from Shaw and they haven't a clue what to do except to say that my PC is possibly missing some protocols.
Just to get things out of the way:
I use WIndows 7, 64 bit that's up to date.
I'll admit, I use torrents to download stuff, but I do have a virus-scanner and spyware-detector going at all times. Plus, I can usually tell when I've downloaded shit.
The problem is usually, temporarily solved by a system restore but I don't want to do that every other day.
So..any ideas?
This sounds familiar. You may need a better driver for your network adapter.
(ethernet adapter driver)
Have you tried the 10 second restart of the modem?
My drivers are all up to date. And I've tried a modem reset quite a few times. It seems as though the modem isn't the issue. It's more like there's a communication breakdown between my modem and my PC somewhere because my modem is connected, it's just my computer isn't able to recognize that.
wireless?
I had the same problem when I bought this one. I got another driver and never had the problem again. Just that it is up to date, does not mean it can't be corrupted...
I've had similar problems and oddly enough it's the router/modem that is the culprit. Just unplug them both for a minute and it all starts working again. Happens to me about every two months. I'm pretty sure it's the modem because my router is brand new. You need to unplug both at the same time though. Works for me.
