Your system is 8 yrs old, you could just try replacing it.
Replacing the whole thing is a better choice. Considering after 3 yrs you're on 'borrowed time' the way they manufacture crap and up specs these days.

* Looks over shoulder at HP laptop from 2011

I bought my Asus laptop that I'm still using in 2013.

The hinges on my 2014 laptop didn't last 4 years. Salesman stared when I checked out the quality of hinges before I even talked specs when I shopped for a new one.
Amazed by how fast the 8th gen i5 was for about a year, then I was knocked to the floor over my desktop I built with a Ryzen.
For like a year or so.... then I saw my friends M1 Macbook...

things change fast.

Yesterday my penny pincher friend needed help doing an online form. On an ancient single core crawler we'd upgraded over the years with an SSD and 4Gb. OMG she kept insisting it was 'all she needed', 'I have time'... every damn excuse to keep using something I'd leave in the recycle shed.

I also have a Compaq desktop from 2003, but I haven't used it in several years and it's just sitting on a shelf in my basement. With both machines, it's no big deal as I use them strictly offline to play games, write, etc. I have a newer laptop (2016) that I use when I need to access the internet, but I either need to upgrade its RAM or get something newer, because with Win 10 on it, it takes forever to start up (around 3 - 5 minutes from password to main screen).

They just passed $500m in donations and with another $500m they can move into a beta and look at a full release by 2040....

Scape @ Wed Sep 21, 2022 3:43 pm

DrCaleb @ Wed Sep 21, 2022 4:13 pm
