Tories blasted on same-sex marriage backup plan
Ya but under whatever religion it may be considered a sin. And to abide by that religions law is paramount. And seeing as how religion is a faith that is chosen, a path in life that you take by your own accord, then those who wish to follow it, must also follow the same rules. I dont think its right to push ones ideals onto someone or some other group. BUT religion and business are different. So it must stop at the church doors. Everything else is a much more public domain and discrimination is wrong in the public forum.

AND Those Judges were appointed by Lieberals in Ottawa. They appointed over 1100 of them.
A friend of mine who is a Director of Legal Aid was denied the opportunity to become a Judge because he did not support the Lieberal Government and wasn't a social engineer and he believed what was in the Law Books and would follow that rather than the crappola these Fiberally appointed judges exhalt.
Everyone who gets passed over thinks they were qualified and that favouritism or something was why they weren't chosen. The fact, however, ist hat most of such people simply AREN'T as good as they think they are.
Judicial appointments at the Citizenship court level is indeed purely patronage but judges beyond that are [picked on their legal reputations and qualifications. Important appointments to the bench are looked at from the very long term, not immediate political considerations. Party patronage is applied to jobs at the pleasure of Cabinet, not permanent jobs like on the bench.
Your friend, is more likely one of those insufficiently qualified with a greater esteem for himself than others above him had.
For some perspective on how patronage works and why people get tapped for such positions take a look at Eddie Goldenberg's "The Way It Works."
It's a fascinating (and quick) read. Goldenberg was Senior Policy Adviser to Prime Ministers Chretien and Martin and presents a real inside view of the juggling act that gfoes on in Ottawa offices. I found it very revealing and extremely informative about how patronage works.
It is also worth noting that both Chretien and Martin ensured they appointed as many Conservative supporters as Liberals to such positions as a matter of good policy and optics. Your friend's complaint is just sour grapes.
