Moncton shooting video snapper says she felt ‘sick to her stomach’ after warnings failed to save police officer

A 19-year-old Moncton woman says she feels sick to her stomach after her futile attempt to warn a police officer that was shot and killed outside her window Wednesday evening.

“We tried to warn the officer,” Vanessa Bernatchez told the National Post on Thursday. “He seemed confused when he showed up of where he should place himself. We banged on the windows, we told him ‘turn around, turn around, he’s there.’ He turned around and it was too late. He got shot and he passed away.”

Ms. Bernatchez’s cellphone video shows her family huddled in front of their window as the rampage unfolded. It had been widely circulated online by Thursday morning, coming perhaps the closest to capturing what exactly happened on the residential street.

“We saw the shadow of the shooter,” Ms. Bernatchez said.

She said the undercover cop got out of his vehicle, but he was turned away from where the shooter was standing. The shooter came closer to the officer, and was in plain view of Ms. Bernatchez from her window, just 15-20 feet from her home, when the shooting happened.

50 bucks , that's where this creep got his weapons.

I surely hope that you don't live in my city. You're dangerous, buddy.

You're a clown. I'm only dangerous to those that threaten me or my family. But pray tell what have I said here that makes you think am.

But it's nice that you think I'm dangerous because I'm a legal gun owner.

Took not even one page for the usual anti-gun nuts to show. BTW Jabber you can buy any one of those guns in Canada, but don't let that get in the way of your juvenile anti-Americanism.

This idiot will end up taking his own life, these nuts rarely want to face a trial and get pointed out that they are loons.

It took an equal amount if time for the usual wouldn't-have-happened-if-we-were-all-armed 'tard to show his face.

Which one was that?

This is not the place, imho, for a shit fest on guns and control.
3 Police Officers were singled out to be ruthlessly murdered because of their profession.
Ya know the ones that encounter things we see in the news, from the beaten spouse, to finding the child raped.
The ones we call when in need.
How many could do that.
I know I could not.

some more nuts:

A national gun group attacked Canada’s firearms laws in the wake of the deadly shooting in Moncton N.B., calling them excessive and unable to stop “bad people from carrying out their evil deeds.”

Canada’s National Firearms Association released its public statement on Thursday, one day after three Mounties were shot and killed and two more were wounded. The NFA expressed its condolences to the families and friends of those killed, and criticized the alleged shooter, 24-year-old Justin Bourque.

“Incidents like these demonstrate the validity of the mounting evidence that none of Canada's firearms control efforts over the past 50 years have had any effect on preventing violence, or otherwise stopping bad people from carrying out their evil deeds,” the statement said.

So if there were more and more lethal guns in the hands of civilians, these trained, armed. police would not be dead?

Based on interviews with friends and acquaintances and recent posts to what appears to be his Facebook page, the 24-year-old Bourque was a gun enthusiast with an anti-authoritarian mindset.

"He's always seemed to have a problem with authority," Caitlin Isaac, who worked with Bourque at Wal-Mart several years ago, told Business Insider, adding that he had issues "with parents, bosses, police."

She said that Bourque was eventually fired from that job.

"I never took him seriously, but he always said he wanted to go out with a bang and bring people with him," she said.

Based on posts on the Facebook page, Bourque not only promoted the use of guns, but held libertarian views and showed hostility toward police and authority in general.

He also shared images with slogans such as "Free Men Do Not Ask Permission to Bear Arms" and "Militia Is Only a Bad Word if You're a Tyrant."

Campbell told Business Insider that Bourque had been raised in a religious Christian household and had been homeschooled.

He doesn't sound so different than what some people have been spouting on CKA.

And Christianity, religion of peace, eh?

Actually I haven't denied anything. Do you admit that your whole contribution to this forum is to fling shit? You never initiate a post, engage in any sort of discussion, you just fly in and fling shit. Jonathan Livingston 2Cdo.

I understand. What's wrong with that? Why is that so necessary for target shooters to have? Me I would strictly limit both single and double action handguns to people who can show a great need for them, and target shooting would not be sufficient need.

Why? I think that if you want to make the standard great need for them then you should be able to prove a great need to ban them.

How many legally owned pistols are used for crimes? Next to zero?

andyt @ Thu Jun 05, 2014 5:16 pm

I don't know, do you. How many legally owned pistols, including those in gun shops are stolen and used for crime? Quite a few. Before the gang bangers started trading pot for US guns, stolen ones were the main source of crime guns.
