B.C. ferry fares could skyrocket
Yogi Yogi:
What are the rates now? In $$$$
Somewhere in the realm of outrageous.
But, all kidding aside, someone should take Hahn back to grade school and explain simple economics to him.
If you charge more than the market can bear, you go broke, but, if you charge a fair price for you're product you make money and stay in business because of volume.
Maybe someone could take him to Walmart or Costco so he could see this theory in action.

Gunnair, agreed. To bad I left years ago. I fucking miss paradise.
Brenda, they notice Kelowna every once in awhile.
Old Guy, I misstated what I meant, but I agree with your sentiments.
If I didn't have family in the interior, I'd never bother leaving the Island. Everything I need I can find here or in Seattle, which I'd go to long before Vancouver.

Why is what? Not leaving the Island or going to Seattle over Vancouver?

Thanks 'B'. I can see why peeps are pissed off. As it is, it costs $150.00+ for a family of 4 to do a round trip.
??? I'm thinking of heading to the island next winter. Put the bike in the back of the truck, cross over and leave the truck parked at my sisters place then take off south to Cali for a few months. Would I have to pay seperate for both the truck and scooter?

I wouldn't think so. Just cargo, doesn't take up extra space...

If the bike is in the back of truck, no.
Gunnair Gunnair:
like I needed another reason not to leave the Island...
I agree.
Bridge it.

Blackball Line's MV Coho which runs between Victoria and Port Angeles is a plain no frills ferry whose fares are higher than BC ferries ($6.00 for a bike vice $2.00) and $55.00 for car and driver vice $45.00 for BC Ferries) They get a lot of traffic and I doubt they have the subsidies that BC Ferries, so, in the end, maybe we ain't paying fair market value yet though the one main difference is people have to take the Ferry off the Island because it's an island.
If it costs so much to ship a person and car one way on a ferry, why does it cost so little to manufacture goods in china and ship them here?
Brenda @ Sat Feb 05, 2011 8:57 am
The water there is cheaper?
