Biking in rain sucks too. We can clear roads and sidewalks. Why not bike lanes too? Especially in the city. The lower mainland for instance has as many snowy days as Holland does. They can do it...
Maybe if every city had a bike trail like the Galloping Goose trail in Victoria that would be feasible, however most cities' bike lanes is to the right of the curb lane, which is where the snow gets piled. If we need to clear the bike lane then the snow would have to go on the sidewalk or you would need Bobcats and dump trucks to haul it out. Besides I imagine only a few diehards would want to continue biking in the winter once the temperature goes below zero. Fair weather riders (which, I imagine, would be the majority) are going to bus it regardless of how well the roads are maintained just to avoid the wind chill (in Toronto at least). Not even David Miller would be dumb enough to incur the expense of having bike lanes cleared of snow. Wait, actually yes he would. Hopefully he doesn't read these threads.
We have the snow hauled away with dumptrucks here ever year. 6ft of snow is pretty common here in the mountains.
In the lower mainland, however, the world stops when an inch of that shit falls...

Anywho, People ride their bikes on the highway now (which imo is pretty dangerous, especially going up hill...), so bike lanes would be appreciated, and in the city, it is always a good idea. Like someone suggested, separated from the road.
here's an awesome video clip that states a case for separated bike lanes. It shows some excellent footage of excellent solutions that other countries have already implemented.

I'm not saying that any of these ideas could or should be implemented universally. but I would like our local planners to try some of them out in various cities, just on a few streets at a time to see how well it integrates into Canadian society.

Fair enough, but I think you underestimate prairie winters and wind.
I didn't. Like I said, I lived in Winterpeg and now live in the GTA. Winterpeg is warmer at 40 below than the GTA is at 20 below.
And as for wind, oh yeah, I know the wind. Hell, half the topsoil in Sask. is in Manitoba
The difference here is, a little breeze in Southern Ontario blows right through you, no matter how you dress for it. And again, the dampness makes paved surfaces more greasy.
My back up bike has these on it:

I made my own studded tires. MUCH cheaper.
I like carbide studs. I like to be able to wear out the concrete instead of the other way around.

LOL, yea well I was a student and liked to be able to buy groceries!
In keeping with the topic, there are a few things that are curious.
Why wasn't Bryant given a breathalyzer?
Someone elsewhere has said that the woman who got out of Bryant's car after the incident was blonde, according to witnesses, whereas Bryant's wife is brunette. ?? I can't confirm this, but has anyone else read the same thing?
Why would a hefty 30-year boxer (Bryant) be afraid of a guy on a bike, especially when there were burly construction workers right on the street - all Bryant had to do was stop on Bloor Street and any of those guys would have rushed to his aid.
How do we know it wasn't Bryant who had the victim in a head lock? After all, Bryant was the former pro-boxer, the victim wasn't.
The video I saw shows Bryant hitting the victim's bike with his 2,000+ vehicle. If that's what happened, obviously the victim would have been angry, as would any of us.
Also, if after hitting the victims bike and damaging it, the victim attempted to resolve the issue with Bryant (i.e., damages for bike repair), both of them know that with no police report, there's no insurance claim, ergo, Bryant could have easily flipped the guy the bird and taken off (which he did do - take off).
Again, that is something else that would have angered most anyone.
If after hitting the victims bike and the victim landed on Bryant's car, is it possible the victim was hanging on for dear life when Bryant gunned the engine?
Why would Bryant feel the need to hire a PR firm the same night he was charged? Anyone who is innocent would not have done so.
This entire case stinks to high heaven and it began to stink the minute the media began trashing the victim!
Again, more of you making up what you think happened, than actual fact. Save it.
Wait for the actual facts to come out.
Oh I see. Should we wait until AFTER the next election before politics is discussed as well?
This is an opinion board, an exchange of ideas. The jury is the one who will be charged with sorting through the facts, few of which will likely ever be published anyway.

You've already convicted him and made up stories along the way to support your "opinions".
You're not interested in the truth.

Questioning what occurred and defending the victim is my right. I much prefer that than what some do which is just open wide whenever the media lifts its shovel.
Now did you have any (relevant) comments on the questions I posted above?
Nancy, this is getting very BORING. You are not here to debate, you are here to ram your point of view down our throats. YAWN.

Did you attempt to debate? I must have missed it.
The insults and negs tossed around by you and others is what's very BORING (not to mention juvenile).
It's you who isn't here to debate, but clearly to flame.
I've asked questions in an earlier post..........if you don't care to respond directly to them kindly leave your insults elsewhere. Thank you.

Again, you don't know who the victim is.
Your questions are based on a made-up scenarios, your opinion of what you
might have seen in a video.
When you pose a question based on fact, I'll be happy to address it.
You already convicted Bryant before you read all the stories and watched any of the videos; hence the "willfully ignorant" reputation points you were given and deserved.
That shows you're not interested in a debate, you're interesting in spreading your opinion with disregard to fact.
