Canada not threatened by Russian flag drop on Arctic Ocean s
Hmm, Canada needs nuclear weapons. Nothing like nuclear missiles tells other countries to respect your soverignty!
Respekt our Authoritah!!!!
Canada need to kick some Russian Ass.
Lets beef up our navy, kick down their flag, and creating an official landmark at the North Poll with OUR flag, and then we can reap the trillion $ worth of oil up their and become a richer nation!

we had nuke weapons in the 60's. Nuke power is a possibility but Alert is only 600Km away from the pole. I say lets beef the shit out of that station, could be used as a FOB.

Sorry Toronto, but we should put the CN Tower on a barge and just drop it at the North Pole. Then rename it the "North Pole". Put a Canadian flag on top and tell Putin to top that!
Now that's a funny idea. Either that or we should put a Tim Horton's on Hans Island. With how popular they are, there would be a line-up of people in their SUVs for miles...

Yeah well think about....
Nuclear weapons are really expensive to manufacture, expensive to maintain, expensive to deploy (involving delivery systems which are at least as costly), expensive to secure (guard).
Then there is the reality that despite signifigant proliferation and the existance of sometimes questionable nuclear-armed regimes----no party has detonated a nuke in anger since Nagasaki.
What is the point in all that investment and risk, for something you can't use.
The downpayment alone would finance, maintain and man a formidable ice capable navy.

yup
meh, like the guy in the article said....this isn't the 15th century.....planting a flag doesn't meen shit.

Neither does a lot of talk with nothing to back it up.
What a stupid place to plant a flag first of all, given that the ocean floor is constantly shifting. One of these days the flag will just fall into a crack.
Who thinks of planting flags on the ocean floor anyway?? Oh yeah, the Russians...they think everyone's out to get them..
Well..maybe they are.
We should send this....

Because it was still dropped on Canadian land.

actually, according to the international law the Pole does NOT belong to ANY country, including Canada!
Russia, Canada, the United States, Norway and Denmark via its control of Greenland have a 200 mile economic zone around the north of their coastline.
Although, any of these countries has the right to expand their econominc zone if there are enough evidences that the shelf is connected to the mainland. The evidences should be presented to the UN commission. Russia is to do so in 2009, as far as i remember.
So we did NOT drop the flag on Canadian land. neutral - maximum. Plain and simple. And mind please that it wasn't officially claimed as Russian territory yet!
On the other hand, the WORDS of Canadian foreign minister that North Pole belogs to Canada doesn't make it a fact. However, you could also provide your evidences to the same commision, i guess. And i doubt there would be a problem to withdraw the flag from the spot, once you officially take over in the UN.
i know what you think at least about one russian, you made it clear to me many times. But we ain't dropping flags on non-disputable territories. We ain't enemies to Canada, the whole world and ourselves.
