Canadian
I'm all for diversity in the workplace, but hiring 50 year old recruits does not make a lot of sense to me. Single moms looking to apply should also have a strong support base because there will be a lot of away time for months on end.
I recall how in the late 1990s DND spent 25 million in advertising and other initiatives to recruit greater numbers of women into the combat arms trades. They ended the program after a year with a grand total of 24 recruits of which only 6 went beyond the basic three year trades training and introduction and a number that was consistent with both pre and post recruitment that was not targeted specifically at women.
Then they got hauled up in front of the Supreme Court and directed to enroll more females. Trouble was the women weren't wanting to join an Arms trade no matter what some Justice decreed.
There was a place once for women in the military: It was called the "Brothel Corps"
Isreal uses women in their military are they in the Brothel Corps... ?
Israel also force every young adults who aren't students to fight.
I think the status of women has changed a lot in the CF. We have an 9 hour class (graindfed might have received it) about sexual harrasment, sexism, and abuses of powers.
Right now when I look around I see about 10% of women.

Oh so SHARP is the name of the course in English eh... I had mine in French.
I don't. I believe problems should be found and solved ASAP, as they affect the moral of the group and in the end, how well the team works together.

All it taught me was how to bug the shit out of someone without going over the line.
I think more women should be in the military but in order for them to be accepted both they and the men need to stop persueing each other sexually, I have seen it many times on Navy ships where couples were found doing the nasty while at sea. I have no idea how bad things are in the Army or Airforce but it does create problems that no one wants.
Just a general conversation about non-white-straight-male people fitting into the Army.
I agree with you.
I think as a culture it sends a terrible message of "You can be gay, just don't tell anyone, stay in the closet, and we won't ask you either, it'll just be this underlying issue we won't talk about, like some terminal disease people are shy to speak about"
*Anyone* that wants to risk their life for their country, should be allowed too.
